Mach4 General Discussion / Digitizing
« on: August 03, 2019, 09:26:06 AM »
Did anyone get a manual digitizing script to work? Some were playing with it https://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php?topic=35896.msg246530;topicseen#msg246530

I would like to be able to move to a point and then add this to a list of points list.

I use paper templates a lot. Right now I write down the coordinates and then re enter them into my CAD program. I am sure there is an easier way to do this. Perhaps it could be added to the options on the shuttlepro script (ooooo la la).

Mach4 General Discussion / Sound on completion of a Gcode file
« on: February 14, 2017, 08:20:53 PM »
Is there a way I can have a buzzer / sound on the completion of a Gcode file. I am around the shop doing other things and would love to have a sound played when the Gcode is finished. Perhaps even it could be configured to play a .wav file...

Thanks,
P

Mach4 General Discussion / Line Tracing using Mach 4
« on: August 26, 2016, 05:41:01 PM »
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about how to do line tracing using a web microscope on a CNC and using Mach 4?

We do large patterns using a pencil to mark the edges and the transfer it to Mach 4 by touching points with a fine bit and recording the points. It would be much easier if M4 could trace the image. Almost like a probe but with a camera.

I know we can take a picture of the diagram and put it into M4 but we run into a problem with parallax angles.

Thoughts?

Mach4 General Discussion / Perferred screen at startup
« on: August 12, 2016, 02:32:24 PM »
I would like the Jog window to be the active window at start up. Before if I went to the Screen editor, move something on the Jog window, and quit the screen editor with the jog window active it would set the Jog window as the start up. Has something changed?

Mach4 General Discussion / Problems with upgrade to 4.2.0.2914
« on: August 07, 2016, 02:27:06 PM »
I recently upgraded Mach 4 to 4.2.0.2914 with the new PMDX plugin software 0.44.214.

Background - I use a laser to do artwork and will often have very large gcode files that have lots of small moves. Many times an object is filled in using .005" laser lines and lots of odd shaped figures. What this means is my machine does lots of moves and any problem tends to accumulate over time. My machine is set up in inches.

What I saw after I upgraded Mach 4 and PMDX was that after filling in a large area the machine would be off of the original location. See the cutting board picture attached. The Gcode did the first few letters and then went to the scroll work. When it came back to the letters it was off.

To help troubleshoot this I made up a test pattern that drew a square and put a number into the square. It then filled in another square by using a back and forth motion. The fill is actually one long line that goes across at a 45 degree angle. Everything seemed to work fine (slight square overlaps are probably in the Gcode file). See attached

I then made a pattern of a number of random dots and filled them in using a 45 degree line. This caused the problem. (see attached). I drew the number 1 square before I started and then again after the first pass of filling in the random dots. You can see that it was off. I then filled in the random dots again and drew the number two square. This was done with the acceleration at 20 and the rapid at 200 in M4. The feed rate was 30.

Although I have never had problems I thought that this might be due to over driving the stepper motors so I slowed the machine down to acceleration of 10, rapid at 100, and feed rate of 20. The problem was still there. (see attached)

I have run my machine much faster than this in the past. I have a router on the machine. Since I was using the laser it did not have to push through anything that might have stalled the stepper motor. The problem seems to show up when the machine has to make a lot of rapid moves. Any thoughts?

Mach4 General Discussion / Weird ShuttlePro Question
« on: March 09, 2016, 04:47:11 PM »
I have two screens on my CNC. One is over by the desk and the other is a touch screen by the machine. I use a program called "Actual Multiple Monitors" to allow me to use a keyboard command to move the active window from one screen to the other.

Previously I had a keyboard sequence assigned to a key on the ShuttlePro to move the screen over to the display by the CNC. It seems this does not work any longer. The keyboard sequence still works from the keyboard (ctrl+/) but not from the ShuttlePro. Anyone have any thoughts?

Note - I am running the ShuttlePro in administrator mode.

Mach4 General Discussion / Shuttle pro plugin - updated software needed
« on: February 14, 2016, 04:46:49 PM »
If you are using the ShuttlePro plug in for Mach 4 you might want to download the latest ShuttlePro software at http://forums.contourdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3772

When you run Mach 4 as administrator the older version of ShuttlePro software can cause problems.

I use one of the buttons on the ShuttlePro to move the Mach 4 screen between monitors (using Actual Multiple Monitors). When Mach 4 runs as administrator it does not work with older versions of ShuttlePro software. Upgraded and everything works well.

Mach4 General Discussion / Mach 4 freezes occasionally at spindle control
« on: February 14, 2016, 01:51:55 PM »
Occasionally Mach 4 freezes when it encounters a spindle control. I can run the same G code file numerous times and Mach 4 will all of the sudden stop at a M03 command. The cycle start button will be grayed out. Sometimes I can disable Mach 4 and re-enable it to get the cycle start button to be slectable again. Sometimes this does not work so I have to reboot Mach 4 again. I am running build 2797 with SmartBob 33.159 plugin.

Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?

Mach4 General Discussion / Add a laser to my CNC
« on: December 18, 2015, 09:02:15 PM »
This is probably a stupid question  ::)

How do I add a laser to my existing CNC. More specifically how do I activate the laser? I thought about doing it with a micro switch and when the Z axis reaches a certain point it provides power. I have a 12V light on the router head that is connected to a jack. I could use this. I am sure there is a more elegant way of doing this in Mach 4.
