to try to clean up this driver thing a little bit.i don't think it is your mach3 driver it is one of the other one's like
lpt1,lpt2,video pci, video agp.that is why i asked you what is in your computer.they might look like their installed
ok but they still might be cross talking.your mechanical parts sound solid.i don't see how you can get a odd number
step count unless your computer is fighting itself.try this uninstall these drivers.mach3,video, sound,lpt1.reboot
in safe mode.install mach 1st then video then lpt then sound.i don't know if you video is a agp slot, pci slot or built
onto the motherboard.my problem came from a pci video, and i changed to a agp video.but i still had to reinstall all
           drivers to finish it up.

i have backlash so i have to use the backlash feature.but your missing what i am talking about.i had my x set so it would
travel 0 to 1' and back perf and the same for the y axis.but when i cut out a square x was .006 and y was .004 off.the
problem was in the device drivers. i had to uninstall them and then reinstall them in safe mode.not the regular way.

i think i know what you are up against.i had weird backlash 2 weeks ago on a machine that was good for 10 months.
screamed for help ,no info.my problem was in the drivers ,even though everything looked perfect.set x steps perf
set y steps perf cut square no good.check your set screws on your gears first then come with the run down on
on your comput.pci, agp onboard stuff added cards you know the routine.

if you did not register the vextra there is a lot of the vector tools that do not work right.it is hard to clean up the
scanned image.but you can do this and it works pretty good.after you scan then you hit the one touch vector and
you will get some sub menus select one bit black and white then proced.after the cleaning do not try to finish the
file as a vector file.save the file as a raster bmp.open the bmp with windows paint editor and finish cleaning it up.
every black dot that you see will be turned into a chain when you convert it to dxf.after you clean the file and save
it.run it through the acme convertor and turn it to dxf.then load it in lazycam.

taking a scanned image and converting it to vectors you might want to check out vextractor by vextrasoft.

when i decided to cut parts with a computer i was traveling down the same ditch you are.just wanted to cut
simple 2d inlays for billiard cues.don't get caught in the software war.right now mach3 and lazycam are all you need.
you just need to take some time to learn how to draw in g-code it's a lot easier than learning a cam program.with
the way mach3 is setup now you can have mach3 running open edit and start laying down your code when you
want to check save the file and exit.view it in the toolpath window.if it looks wrong open it back up and change
the code.try it just start with a simple box, then try a circle.plus you get to draw true dimension no scaling.plus after
you load a g-code program you can import it into lazycam from mach3 and really put some moves on it.start with a
1 inch box you will catch on real fast.

is it possible for me to access the backlash routine in mach3.when i enter my true dial indicated backlash number into
the backlash menu and run a cut  the part measures .006 fat.i can go back to the backlash menu reduce the lash .006
and the part will size.the phony lash numbers will let me cut a good square but a nasty circle.the true lash numbers will
cut a good circle but it will be large and the square off.can i get to the lash code and try to work it around.

thanks bill

attached are my files---xml---pocket---lay

pocket cuts fine finish size should be x=1.254 y=.574, finish cut is x=1.253  y.573 the difference is the tool bit that's ok.
lay cut dos not come out right using the same tool. i switch stock and program during same setup.
lay cut finish size should be x=1.250 y=.570, the finish cut is x=1.256 y=.575  that's a pretty  good difference from inside to outside cuts.
i noticed this about a month ago it pockets a great 1" round hole but a fat 1" round lay.

General Mach Discussion / Re: circles -- oval shape

me too

i have a little test g-code that cuts a 1.0 inch circle and a 1.0 inch square in the same run.it cuts them so i can
mic them from the outside.the circle cuts oval and the square x =1.006   y=1.009
i also have checked my machine all over.last friday i started going back to previos versions looking for the change
       have not found anything yet.
