Galil / Re: Galil plugin version 4.6 available.

Jim,

Did you go into "Plugin configuration" in the "configuration" drop down menu.  After all the installation tasks are done you have some config tasks to do, one time only.  You need to map galil axis to Mach axis to start with.
There are still several setup features that I have not got done yet because I have so far been unable to get appropriate info.  but I have at least got the system up and running.

Jim,
I can only relate my experience.  I had similar issues in the beginning, un installing and reinstalling Mach 3 and registry cleaning made ZERO difference for me using XP an ethernet.
Normally you would not have Smart Term. and the galil suite working together but I see on the Galil site that current downloads of ST have the latest drivers so they may coexist together if your ST was downloaded since the latest drivers were included.
My suggestion would be to manually delete whatever Galil plugin DLL that you have in the Mach 3\plugin directory.  Uninstall all Galil stuff and run a reg cleaner.  Then install ONLY the Galil Suite and the non ST plugin.  That worked for me.  Galil Suite has everything that Smart Term did.

i think that the plugin works with W7.  It turns out that my problem was that I wrongly thought that the plug-in with the ST suffix was for the latest Galil drivers.  It works fine for me when I use the plug-in without that suffix.

General Mach Discussion / Motor tuning
« on: July 08, 2014, 06:39:45 PM »
Simple question.
When driving through an external motion controller card, Galil to be specific, which has its own motor tuning, does the Mach 3 motor tuning still apply?  If not, is there a default setting which should be set?  In general I find the documents poor when it comes to describing the differences between what is required for driving through the printer port and driving an external motion card.

Steve,
Many thanks for your help.
Yes I am using an ethernet connection and everything seems fine with the standard plugin.
I am new to both the Galil controllers and Mach 3 so there is a lot to learn, but I am at least able to made chips now.  Although I am sure that there are many settings yet to be optimized.  I was a bit spoiled with my old Anilam system, it came totally setup and ready to go.

Steve,
Talking of plugins.
I have the latest Galil Smart Terminal software loaded and I see that there is a different Galil plugin for that.  However when I start Mach 3 with the Galil-ST plugin loaded I get an error message.  I do not get that with the non-ST plugin.  I can run Mach 3 with that plugin.  Can you confirm that the combination of the Galil ST software and the standard plugin will not jump up and bite me some day in the future.  Else is there a way of using the ST plugin.

Steve,
Many thanks.  So from your message I get the idea that when using external motion controller cards like the Galil, there will be little point in waiting to get Mach 4.  Mach 3 will be just as good for that setup?

That didn't work any better.
I uninstalled Mach 3, ran a reg cleaner which deleted several Mach 3 keys, reinstalled Mach 3, installed the ST plugin and started Mach 3.
i got the same error messages as before.  It tells me that the Galil ST DLL is defective.  I am running a new installation of XP with no internet connection and I have disabled all unnecessary features that I can think of, such as the firewall, auto-updating etc..
The only other software that I have installed is Galil suite and the reg cleaner.

Many thanks.  I am off to test that now.  Fortunately XP is what I have installed on the computer that I have dedicated to Mach 3.  I'll run a regcleaner first
