Tangent Corner / Looking for ideas / advice, i think :)
« on: January 05, 2018, 08:59:08 AM »
Hi all,

many of you will know me from the Mach3 forum, many of you have helped guide me through building various CNC machines etc over the years, thanks  ;)

My day-job of some 25 years is coming to an end soon  :( :( :( Before that job I have had two others but all in the same trade (printing/die-cutting) I have naff all qualifications on paper, no degrees, no HND's , no Masters etc :(

I run my own business part-time as a hobby, the idea was to build it up as a retirement supplement - I have a CNC plasma cutter, CNC mill and a small lathe plus welding kit and small-part powder-coating. I make hanging basket brackets, fire-pits and anything else i can think of to try and bring some cash. It works but not well enough to live on as I'm only 54 and its a fair way to retirement yet.

I really enjoy building machines, have made several at the day-job, PLC control, pneumatic drive and they have all been successful for what they needed to do. These were made before i discovered CNC so I can only guess they would have been far better if built now :) I also like making stuff in metal, really enjoy control electronics, panel-building/wiring and associated tomfoolery :)

Now, my main point - I'm trying to find out if there is anything I can make in a pretty comprehensive workshop, that can be sold for a reasonable return?? Thinking stuff like pre-built CNC control cabinets, CNC kits, small machines??

I know i will have to get another job and that prospect after being continuously employed for 39 years is scaring me sh1tless i must say :o :o But if i can boost my own income on something useful, it may mean only needing a part-time job stacking shelves etc!

I realise its a bit of a cheek asking this sort of question on a forum with so many likeminded people but maybe there is a hole in a market i can fill??

Any suggestions?

There is also a Denford section here....

Sounds dead - its a crap-shoot with the Huanyang vfd's :)

The one you showed seems ok, it goes to 400Hz which is vital and the power rating looks ok too.

General Mach Discussion / Re: M6 Macro tweaking

IIRC it was something to do with manually moving the table while the machine was paused inside the M6 pair, but i need to check that again as it was some time ago and pretty specific to the CSMIO.

With reference this issue, another forum member forwarded a very useful link that fully explains the issue, http://www.calypsoventures.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=75#p337

It is all to do with Mach3, CSMIO and auto tool length setting while INSIDE the M6 loop - I had long since given up on this and have disabled the button macros on my 2010 screenset as any attempt to set tool length in the M6 loop will put Mach into reset with an ePid error. It seems CS Labs have no intention of fixing the issue.

I can confirm that tool probing works well OUTSIDE the M6 loop as i use it on the mini-mill setup on my CSLABS controller.

Brilliant, thanks

General Mach Discussion / Driver watchdog?

Had an oddity pop up on my plasma table yesterday,

made 5 or 6 cuts perfectly then stopped and screen message said "Driver watchdog triggered"

I just reset and started up again and all was ok, is this a sign of pending trouble or just a blip???

I will need to test it again, I know the Z move to zero works ok in the M6Start as that has been running for some time successfully, so i presume having the code move the knee will also be ok.

IIRC it was something to do with manually moving the table while the machine was paused inside the M6 pair, but i need to check that again as it was some time ago and pretty specific to the CSMIO.

I am hoping to put the knee positioning code in the M6End macro as it would make sense to drop the knee in M6Start for easy tool change then lift it at the end.

Ah, ok

I think adding the knee as an axis - A, B or C will be ok.

As soon as M6 T10 is called, the Z axis should lift to machine zero and the knee should move to the difference between the Haimer probe (T100) and T10. The knee AND Z axis both zero together when setting Z ref.

The macro reads ok i think, the code makes sense to me, whether it will work in reality i'll have to wait and see :)

Thanks Gary,

This mill is running a CSMIO IP/A with Encoder and MPG modules added, I'm not sure a separate PLC will offer much more for this simple task?

If I were adding an ATC maybe but the BP won't play nicely with and ATC ;)

I even copy the desktop shortcuts as i use two profiles, whole M3 folder on a stick and laptop.

I have a copy of the mach installer on the stick too.
