General Mach Discussion / Re: Bridgeport Knee Mill Conversion?

Yes HTD 5 x 15mm

IIRC it was 22/72 ratio - 3.2727:1

You are right in that windows was never designed to be a machine control base, its not real-time and has a lot of stuff going on in the background most of the time.

On the other hand, no this is not something you should need to accept i think, my two machines, a mill and a plasma table both run very reliably, maybe one glitch a month fixable with a re-boot and thats mostly on the plasma which brings a whole host of issues for computers etc.

Hopefully someone with ESS knowledge will help out as i have a standard BOB on the plasma running on the LPT port and a CSMIO/Ethernet controller on the mill.

Good luck

Made a little progress today, got the motor mounted...

Hopefully get the limit switches mounted tomorrow :)

General Mach Discussion / Re: HELP with V-CARVING please
« on: January 19, 2018, 02:37:50 PM »
Any pointed bit should give a result, a 90degree bit is easily identified as art will fit nicely in the corner of a set-square etc.

Make sure you tell Aspire or V-Carve what angle you are actually using.

And why I need instant stop, because I do not want to break tools, inserts ,displace toolchanger , Feed hold is just to slow for what I need it.
When you drill hole you can stall spindle if there is to many chips in hole and hole is deep and there no time to wait for Feed hold to take action, if spindle stops all axis need to stop also same millisecond. And when I clean hole I do not want to run program from begging because that is wast of time, I want to continue where I stopped , few mm +/-  .

IMHO, The part in bold would be an example of when an e-stop could be used - you see a situation arising, it needs to stop, now! The answer is - press the big red button.

After that is what matters though - i would never attempt a quick restart after an e-stop, i would certainly re-ref the machine, check my co-ordinates, note the code line i stopped on, fix the issue and use run-from-here, unless near the start of the code where i would just run through the code again.

Hmm, as i said in 1st reply - set it near, run auto-set feature, enter exact value and forget - its that simple ;)

Mach3 under Vista / Re: Scripter Compile Error

This is also a bug in some flavours of Mach3, 062 seems pretty good.

I have a CSMIO-A on my mill and have not lost a step yet, in fact when it does lose position while tuning it will fault out and stop. Do your servos have encoders connected back to the CSMIO?

Have you eliminated all mechanical possibilities?

I would get it close then use the auto-tune setting in Mach.

Sounds like the fun is just starting :)

FYI, just incase you have not seen it, maybe have a look at HSMAdvisor for a speed/feed calculator - i find it really helps when machine factors like spindle RPM or power are limited, I cant go over 3000rpm on my Bridgeport (yet) and it calculates better feed rates etc to compensate.
