General Mach Discussion / Re: MACH3PLASMA LIMIT SWITCHES FOR G540/PROMA
« on: February 14, 2018, 03:07:57 AM »
These are not "limit' switches - they are just inputs to Mach via the BOB, they should show in diagnostics - do they??

With Proma in test mode, the Up/Down inputs in diagnostics should be flashing

Thanks,

my main issue with rotary is that the material is not machined and there is no option to  machine a totally flat face on it, Its the side of some aluminium angle which usually appears concave slightly.

With the drag tools being spring loaded i would hope they work better?

Nice,

well don't keep us in suspense - what was the fix :)

Try it in the MDI box - just drop the Z axis to maybe 2", then type G53 G0 Z0 in the MDI and hit enter

All that should happen is the Z axis zips back up to home, no messages etc.

Thanks, i have Fusion sorted.

Its just a matter of finding a tool that will give quick and easy results on aluminium, I have a reasonably fast spindle at 24k but find the micro engraving bits far too delicate - this is what made me look towards drag engraving. They use drag on Zippo lighter cases, was on TV the other day and the result was perfect, of course they didn't say what tool ;)

The macro is using G53 so tool offsets are not relevant.

I'm assuming you are in inches?

Try for an experiment move your Z axis Tool change position to say Z0.25

Now try MDI  G53 G0 Z0.25 - does it hit soft limit?

If no then try a M6 tool change and see what happens.

I'm just wondering if its not happy going Z0 with soft limit at Z0 as well.

Also, is this new behaviour - new macro etc??

Yes, there are a lot asking for fusion to do static spindle posting, may come one day.

Are drag engravers any good?
Never used one :)

Check what value you have in your tool change position for Z axis and then check where your z soft limit is.

Do soft limits work properly in manual moves??

Back again :)

Not related to G49 but to the code used here.

I'm looking to try drag engraving, so i need the spindle off.

Fusion can't post with a zero spindle speed, it faults and aborts.

So, my thought is to set a speed of 1rpm in Fusion - the mill cannot do this.

Then edit the file load script a little to search this time for "S1 M3" and comment that out.

Does that sound workable - there is no way a proper job can be loaded to run at 1rpm so that should be ok, I also cannot think of any other time that "S1 M3" would appear in code???

Things are moving fast here :)

Now i need to engrave some aluminium parts, i'm thinking a drag-engraving tool for it?

Anyone know if you can output drag-engraving paths in Fusion?
They need the spindle off.
