General Mach Discussion / Re: Startup and shutdown sequence
« on: June 28, 2015, 09:25:37 AM »
I start up with the E-stop pressed, just in case a signal fires the plasma torch unexpectedly.

I generally just turn everything on and off but the E-Stop is always in before shutdown and startup.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Step/port frequency

Thanks, I did wonder why that was set at 50k - It changed when I installed the CandCNC MP3000-DTHCII unit and custom screen sets, I know they do some pretty funky stuff with the port, maybe thats the reason.

It passes the port test ok and has been running at 50kHz for about 9 months now so probably safest to stick with it, unless there is a good reason no to?

Might ask Tom at CandCNC.

General Mach Discussion / Step/port frequency

Step frequency?

I need to drive a machine driven by two steppers at 9000mm/min using ballscrews, direct drive.

Is it as simple as...

9000mm/min with 20mm lead screw so 9000/20=450rpm

450*200 steps per rev=90,000 steps or pulses per min

90,000 / 60 = 1500 steps per second

so max frequency per axis is 1.5kHz ?????

Using 10x micro stepping would need 15kHz per axis?

If so would that be safe if my port is happy at 50kHz????

Many thanks

General Mach Discussion / Re: Exact stop issue with small circles

Just a guess here but you could try turning CV mode back on but also set "stop CV on angles>" to 89 degrees, hopefully that will give you smooth circles AND stop on corners.

Great, thanks, that's one thing less to doubt :)

General Mach Discussion / Can Mach3 go too fast??
« on: June 15, 2015, 05:20:24 AM »
I am having difficulties dialling in a new plasma cutter on my table, faults lead towards going to fast but everyone says the book spec should work perfectly.

My question is - Is there any way I could set say a feed speed of 1000mm/min in code and Mach3 runs it faster than it should?

What is the speed regulation method internally??

Thanks

Dave

are you running a fully licensed copy of Mach??

THC does not work in free mode

I have the latest version of the one that uses Mach control, could not afford the step up to next level at that time.

Yes, my CandCNC unit has the S commands - you can turn it on and off any time you like, so far it's been the best investment I've made after buying a Hypertherm plasma ;)

I cut lots of fine detail in stainless, small jobs but as i use every inch of the sheet, coping with warp and twist is vital as my cut height on the fine-cut consumables is only 0.5 - 0.75mm, the CandCNC kit handles this easily.
