Sounds a bit like the 100ohm is stopping the inputs being pulled far enough down and the logic level is on the border between on and off, removing the resistor pulls it down harder.

I'm a country mile away from expert level, I generally just try something and look at the code after then tweak to suit ;)

I use VB6 at work for programming and its a bit like that, just a touch more temperamental ;)

:)

Yes i use M08/9 for the fan but i put the code elsewhere in the post as i use the torch as a drill sometimes to mark spots for drilling later - no point having fan on then so a little jiggery-pokery with the post and throw in a timer and it works exactly how i like it :)

The fan is just a bit of the noise - add in the compressor, the plasma sound itself and you have a lot going on. But at the end of the day it's a machine so I just ignore it ;)

I do have the extract controlled by the system though - comes on just as the height sensing starts and goes off 5 seconds after the last cut stops, i have a delay timer that keeps it on during rapids etc.

I used my first UC100 on my mini-mill and its working perfectly, nice little unit. Easy install and replaces the lpt port directly.

do not gound the pc port side to ground, the control side of the pc is usually isolated, connecting it to ground can cause serious ground fault loops as the supply side of the pc is grounded as well.

not sure about the vfd part, is this supply or motor side cables?

i do not use shielded cable on the supply side but if i did i would only ground it at the supply point not the vfd, the protective ground wire is obviously connected at both ends and again from the output side to the motor, the output cable shielding is only connected at at vfd point.

I think it does have a 'teach' mode but never used it, have a look for the manual, its on this site somewhere, might help.

Simple G-Code is not that hard to pick up or understand.

Hi Tim

I was a newb to cnc until a year ago, manual dinosaur as well ;) I have since built three CNC machines - two plasma cutters and a mini-mill so, yes it can  be done.

I am sure what you want to build can be made, maybe try also on a forum like MyCNCUK.com as there are a lot of weird machines being built there.

This can be caused by switch bounce - try adding some debounce in settings, maybe 2000 and work downwards.

It's the only downside really, there are ways round it - filter and recirculate but the filters are £££ and will clog eventually, you need a lot of filtration area for the air flow required.

If the intake window was above and to the side or rear of the table then it might not be too bad, mine is behind me about 4' so it gets draughty ;)
