Ok, thanks

looks like the line should be RunScript("M889") but i had RunScript(M889)

will try again tonight ;)

It's not really off topic so no worries :)

Damn interesting stuff.

(note: runscript isn't present in earlier versions of Mach3 - I can't use it for example because I use 3.42.20)

Would it be in this version - "Mach3Version3.043.062.exe"  - is that version 043 or 062 ???
It does not run so i am guessing either i typed something wrong or this version does not support it ??

MDF, wood, plastic is not exactly a true medium to check tool cutting, different materials, etc all come into play.
Heck, the tooling marks left in the surface can be worth 1 or 2 thou.

RICH

Exactly what i said earlier, 4thou on MDF, I would be happy to hit that on aluminium :)
Could be a slightly different ground cutter, is it new, has it been verified to be an exact dimension tool?
These are very tight tolerances for MDF, what measuring tool is used, vernier, mic, etc?

Back to a possible motor upgrade....

SO, we fit a decent motor, 3Hp seems to fit the figures, a new sensorless vector VFD and throw an encoder on top which is connected to the CSMIO via the ENC module.

Am I right in believing the spindle speed would then show up in Mach3 as the correct reading from the the encoder?

Would the speed be a closed-loop in that if I ask for 500rpm, it will give me 500 not 490 or 510?

Just figuring whether or not to keep this idea on the burner or shelve it for a while ;)

Nah, just been reading the CS_Labs tool-length probe macro and despite them having their own M31 probing routine, they have just used the bog-standard G31 probe that I know does not work inside the M6End macro, saves me a lot of time messing about i guess :)

Seems odd that they would not use their own routine though??

Ok, thanks, this seems to be CS_Labs specific, i'll try messing with their examples if i can figure it out ;)

Just been looking at the CS_Labs M31 macro for probing, it talks directly to the controller through the plugin so that might work better.

It needs parameters passed to it for distance and speed, but that means calling a macro from within a macro - i thought that was frowned upon or is it ok?

The calling macro will have to specify the distance each time for the fast and slow probe unless this is also built-in - the instruction are very vague really. They just say pass it the X Y Z distances and F speed but do not mention if it does one-pass or two-pass probing or anything else really.

Will have a play when i get a chance, it might work.?
