Bargain Basement / Converted Bridgeport Mill
« on: October 25, 2020, 03:39:53 AM »

I am selling my converted manual Bridgeport mill.

I blew the bank on it and used AC servos, a new ballscrew kit, quality CSMIO ethernet controller etc, It does run Mach3 but thats not been an issue at all. It uses a custom screen-set for all controls.

As usual it never got 100% finished, i never even got round to fitting the control cabinet door :) But it is 100% functional and well tested.

Uses BT30 tooling of which there is a serious amount. Top speed is 4000rpm via 3Hp sensorless vector drive motor, it will do rigid tapping pretty well, i have only used it up to 8mm though. Tool-height offset is done via the knee so you keep the full spindle travel on all tooling lengths - this is a big bonus.

There is a probe, only a budget one but it works very well, a tool-height setter, all the spanners and tools etc plus many of the parts from the manual mill - hand knobs etc in a box somewhere plus the original R8 spindle and bearings.

I have done some stunning work on her, i used Fusion 360 for code with a mildly custom post-processor. I can give some of my files so you have a reference to look at.  I might even still have the Fusion Post-Processor. Can also show it running if you want a viewing and run through the usage.

The big downside is that to get the mill out, the bed and long ball screw will have to come off - it needs to go through a 1m gap that was not there when it came in. This is not too hard, pulling the bed is fairly easy on a BP, i can give guidance but can't do any heavy lifting etc - one of my reasons for selling up is my collapsing knee joints

Sound like something interesting????

General Mach Discussion / Locking a Mach3 setup
« on: June 25, 2020, 01:51:31 AM »
Is there a way to lock the general config of a Mach3 setup?

I run Plasma with it and find that the "Use Watchdogs" tick box keeps turning itself on in general config.

I turn it off, press "save settings" on menu and at a random time it turns back on :(

The machine is not so happy when its on and will fault out for seemingly no reason at random times, its far better with it off.

General Mach Discussion / Probe debounce...
« on: June 06, 2020, 10:41:22 AM »
Hi all, been a few years since i was here :)

Needed to make a new surface probe for my plasma table, got the mechanics done but seen to have a little issue - if someone can confirm my diagnosis and then offer some help would one good :)

ISSUE:-
When running a Z axis probe, the switch will open and Mach3 wills sense the material but the axis does not appear to pull away from the material until the switch opens again.

DIAGNOSIS:-
Switch bounce - its closing and opening very rapidly i.e. bouncing and Mach3 senses it as having pulled away.

FIX:-
Adjust the debounce ion general config, trouble is there are two debounce settings - is this "Debounce" or "Index Debounce"

Thanks all

Dave

General Mach Discussion / Drilling with turn.
« on: June 24, 2019, 08:57:05 AM »
Hi all,
Hust getting back to my lathe spindle add-on for the Bridgeport mill but hit a snag.

This code...

G98 G81 X0. Z-6.262 R2. F365.

Does nothing at all, skips over it.
Would that be a know thing, something i'm doing wrong or something else??

I have a CS-Labs controller running Mach3.

Any ideas??

General Mach Discussion / Clearing the current tool by code....
« on: June 02, 2019, 02:28:55 AM »
For one reason or another  ;) I want to clear the current tool with a macro code.

I have tried SetCurrentTool(0) but although it clears the tool DRO it does not clear the tool offset or the tool description label.

Can it be done properly?

This is on Mach Turn BTW

General Mach Discussion / Turn tool-path display oddities...
« on: May 30, 2019, 11:53:27 AM »
Still fiddling with Turn and my mill/Lathe setup - some oddities with the tool path display have arisen i think, just my knowledge lacking probably.

Pictures attached,

1st one is with a simple thread path loaded, no tool called, display looks fine to me, the Z-Min & Z-Max DRO also look good.

2nd one shows what happens when i call T1 which although not a threading tool, IS set with correct offsets in the table. The numbers are now meaningless and the display even less so :)

3rd one is the tool table entry for T1

4th pic is the path display after scrolling way to the right - it seems to think the part is now massive??

So, if if call T1, set my Z by touch-off, press path regen, the file will run ok but the min/max numbers are useless

I have index-homing so i set my tools using Hood's method which references them to the machine home position if i understand correctly, hence the large offset numbers.

Any ideas why things are a bit screwy - i know its tool related but in what way and can it be fixed by my changing something i do??

Thanks

General Mach Discussion / OemButton 250 Help
« on: May 11, 2019, 01:00:53 PM »
I see button 250 is disable an axis movement but how is it re-enabled?

There is no opposing button code.

I am setting up my mill for turning and once positioned i want to disable the Y axis and C axis (knee) so they cant be accidentally moved or jogged

Unless there is a better way??

General Mach Discussion / Mill or Turn?
« on: April 14, 2019, 12:02:05 PM »
Hi all,

i want to add basic turning to my mill conversion by building a servo driven spindle to mount on the table.

Is Mach3 Turn just a screen-set or totally different build of Mach?

Does Mill understand constant-surface-speed commands?

Thanks
