General Mach Discussion / Re: My X3 Syil Mill Spindle Does Not Turn On
« on: January 01, 2017, 01:26:15 AM »
I turned on the machine about 2 hours later and the DRO turned on. I was able to adjust the RPM and I let the spindle run for 20 minutes without any problem. What would cause this intermittent problem?

General Mach Discussion / My X3 Syil Mill Spindle Does Not Turn On

I can't get the spindle to turn on. The green power light is on and the emergency stop is released. The DRO does not display any data. What should I check to try to get it to work? It ran fine about a month ago. All axis are working correctly.

I just turned on the machine and tried the spindle . The DRO lit up and I started the spindle. I ran it up to 2000 rpm and down to 1000 rpm. After 5 minutes, it turned off by itself and the DRO went blank. The green power light is still on.

Thanks for the answers. Both work just fine.

General Mach Discussion / Help With G Code
« on: October 28, 2014, 02:54:01 PM »
I want to know how to write G code loop  for cutting a ramp surface form in Y Z axis. I used to do this when I was a working machinist and now I forgot how to write it. I need to know how to write the number of repetitions and the amount of step over. I know the Z and Y start and end points. I want the cutter to start at Y0 and Z0 and ramp up +.500 in Z, and +1.00 in Y. Then make a step over of .010 in X and ramp back down to Z0. Then do a step over of .010 in X and ramp back up in Z. I want the total length of the ramp in X to be 2.000 long.

Is there any adjustment for it? Can it be replaced? If so, where would I locate one?

I have noticed the spindle stops when I run it at about 1900 to 2100 RPM. It will restart immediately, but will shut down after a couple minutes. If I run the spindle at about 1500 RPM, it will run all day. Is there some overload sensor that shuts the spindle off if it detects vibration or strain? Is there a control board inside the head that may be flakey?

I have had the Spindle stop rotating durring program run twice. I can restart the spindle, but what would cause it to shut off while making a very light cut? I ran the same program all yesterday with no such problem. Any ideas are appreciated. My machine is a SYIL X3 conversion using Mach3.

I found out the coupler had come loose and slipped off the ball screw. An easy fix.
