PoKeys / Re: Pokeys57CNC & Mach4, spindle question
« on: April 07, 2016, 08:38:33 PM »
I am now working on the spindle encoder for threading in Mach4. I am looking at options for the spindle encoder. Is it necessary to be a quadrature encoder, or can a simple pulse train. like from a gear tooth sensor reading a gear? How many pulses per rev  are needed for good threading? I will also have an index pulse of a single pulse per rev.

For 4) you are right that it is a version compatibility problem, and I am sorry that it will not be fixed. We made a few changes to the job file along the way and there are a couple places where this has happened, to many to be fixed.

I do not see the issue you refer to in 5) can you post a screen shot?

I have thought about that myself. I had a similar job with 8 arc slots. I may be able to work that in.

There was a bug in the way job files were stored. I fixed that in the latest version that is on the download site. Unfortunately the old versions were written in a way that I cannot recover them, so you will have to recreate a job wit this new version then it should be able to be used on both machines as you want to do. Both machines will have to run the new version.

Sorry for that screwup.

The problem is that +5 v is needed for a prox switch, it is a 3 wire device. It makes it hard to connect when there is no +5 in the IDC connector.

I have discovered my problem- the PoPendant uses pin 1 and 2 for the MPG, but the ultra fast encoders for the spindle encoder also use pin 1,2 I can only use the pendant if I do not connect the rotary encoder, which will not work for a lathe.

I have also hit a problem with the Home switch inputs. the connectors on the 57CNC do not supply +5 volts, and I am using prox switches that need +5.  This is true for both the screw terminal pins and the 20 pin ribbon cable connector.

The Pokey57CNC seems like a nice idea but there are several difficulties in making the external connections. I may have to switch to use the Pokey57E and the PoExtBusCNC16 board. The I can connect motors by ribbon cable and the rest of the I/O to screw terminals.

PoKeys / Pokey57CNC and Pendant
« on: March 17, 2016, 12:43:03 PM »
I have a Pokey57CNC to run a lathe. I have most of the lathe functions running, but have not done any threading testing yet.

I have a 6 axis  pendant from cnc4pc. I believe this is the same one sold by Poscope. I have used it on my mill with a Pokey57E and  a smoothstepper and the pendant works great.

I have connected the pokeys to the 57CNC board on the lathe but cannot get it to work. I check the use pendant setup exactly as I did for the mill. Pushing any buttons on the pendant causes the green indicators on the pokeys config page to light as expected. But the MPG will not move an axis on the lathe, and in fact i t seems to kill the Pulse Engine because even the jog keys wont move the motors.

What is the proper setup for this pendant?

thanks

That means it cannot find the screen set. It should be in the NfsTurn folder under turnaddons called NfsTurn.set.

I found thaat.  For the record here if anyone else needs this- in Mach config  under output pins you select the pokeyPE device. Then the signal name will offer the relays or SSR as the device.

Thank you. I have figured the wiring and have 2 pokey57cnc boards wired to lathes. I amusing the latest plugin and I need to know how to turn on the threading features. I  have the profile from Brians lathe and with it the lplugin has a check mark for Use Lathe Threading. I cannot find how to turn that on for my profile.
