Newfangled Mill Wizard / Re: 4th axis toolpath ?
« on: March 04, 2013, 07:12:18 AM »
The toolpath is Brians department. It is the same code as used in the Mach4 product, so when its ready I assume he will move it into the wizard.

Gear cutting uses a subroutine called index.tap which is in the subroutines folder. The Y moves are in the subroutine.

The basic motion is to set Y to the first cut depth, advance the cutter in the X direction, then backup to the xstart position. Then the subroutine advances Y one step depth and the X move repeats. When Y has made all the steps to full cut depth the cutter is rotated one tooth and the cycle repeats.

I do not understand which wizard you are referring to. I suspect it must be one of the user submitted wizards, which are not part of the Newfangled set and are not supported. If you can better identify which wizard I may be able to help.

I just made a part that took 9 operations, including rough cuts and finish passes of 3 features, and I was thinking about the idea of a user defined name associated with the operation. I had not though about the tool change showing the diameter, but that is nice.

These are not likely to be added in the short term, but I will add this to my 'someday' list

I found the chip load being zero problem. A mistake in the material table over using the feed over ride value to be 1 or 100. The correct use is to have the table entry a 1 if you mean 100%. The chip load calculation was doing a divide by 100, making the chip load smaller than a 4 decimal number.

Anyway, its fixed in the code.

That leads to how we will update this wizard. I do not want to make a new install kit for every single bug, so we will wait for a few fixes then do a new release.

Ah, I just read your note closer, you are looking at the video. The code has changed a good deal since then, and I think we have it consistent now

Load the code and see if that is better.

Yeah, several strange things here. I think the long Z values are a toolpath bug, the code has the -10 as specified. I will have to get Brian to look at that.

The funny tool chip loads is something I have seen, but cannot nail down the conditions under which it happens.

I  like the job file for debugging purposes.

Ill work on this one, back later.

I see the material file in the installer is an old one- its missing the %override values, and shifts in some other fields in their place. I saved the gcode and looked at the tool path in mach3 and it looks OK, so Im sure we have a toolpath bug in the wizard.

Newfangled Mill Wizard / Re: Wizard does not recognise License

Ok, I have XP and use firefox, so I have some trouble following your problem. I tried google chrome and it seems to pick its own choice of where to download an exe file. If you just click on it in the browser you cant choose the run as admin option.

You will have to find where google saveed your download. Then using the windows explorer, find that file, right click on it and choose the run as Admin option.

Sorry its so tough, I hate it when browsers make choices for you and hide stuff like this.

Which windows are you running, XP or Win7.

Which browser are you using? All of them I know should give you the choice to Run or Save.

To be following the microsoft rules for a proper application we now install the exe in C:\ProgramFiles\Wizards There seem to be cases when you need to run that as Admin. From the download link choose to save it to disk. Then right click on the file and you shuold get a choice to 'run as' where you can choose Administrator.

Tell me what error message you got trying to install.

The Mach3 version, also called the Addons for Mill that you paid $50 for are good forever, for all new versions. These are the wizards that run under Mach3.

The new Mill Wizards, that are a standalone program will need a new license, the introductory price is $50 the list price in about a month will be $75.

There are other differences. The new license is locked to a PC, you can run it only on one machine. You can run it in demo mode on any PC to create a job file, and view the toolpath, then take that job file to the machine with the license and generate the code. Bug fix versions will not need a new license, but if we come out with a major new version it will need some kind of license upgrade, but that is not fixed yet.

Think of Microsoft- you bought XP, got a couple service packs for no upgrade cost, but if you want Win7 you need to upgrade
