Mach4 General Discussion / Re: G-code execution from screen button.
« on: October 06, 2017, 02:16:13 PM »
Hi,
what sort of Gcode? Is it one  or two lines of code or is it a complete Gcode file? Does the code change?

If each piece of code you wish to execute is reasonably small and is fixed then
Quote
LUA Syntax:
rc = mc.mcCntlGcodeExecute(
      number mInst,
      string commands)
will be very useful to you. You can use it in the left-up button event script to execute small batches of code.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: How to use offset in mach4
« on: October 06, 2017, 02:07:17 PM »
Hi,
very useful screen in the wx4.set is the Offsets tab, you can view/edit G54, G55, G56....or see them as a table.
The page contains functions for using edge finders, gage blocks, all in all very useful.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Erratic Feedrate When Cutting Spline Lines
« on: October 06, 2017, 03:03:31 AM »
Hi dq282,
regrettably manuals always seem to be some years behind the forefront of Mach4. This does cause lots of consternation but that's the way it is
and unless Artsoft start charging us bigtime its not going to change dramatically for a good while yet.

On the other hand your original post and all the replies, ancillary questions and comments are all available for anyone to follow. The forum IS
the manual.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: How to use offset in mach4

Hi,
referencing your machine and setting work co-ordinate spaces, traveling to a specific location on your part are all fundamental activities of
any CNC machine. Mach4 does all these things, with slight variations no doubt from Mach3 but it does them.

Does your machine have home switches? Do you reference your machine when you start a session? When you reference your machine using 'Ref All'
or referencing individual axes as on the Machine Diagnostics page with Ref X, Ref Y or Ref Z the leading LEDs of the axes DROs go green. Do your
DRO LEDs go green?

Just below the DRO block there are four buttons 'Deref all Axes', 'Go To Work Zero', 'Machine Coordinates', 'Distance To Go'.
The 'Go to Work Zero' button does as it says...goes to the 0,0,0 coordinates of the current G54.********* workspace. It will go nowhere if G54 is not
defined. The DROs and all offsets are all very conveniently displayed in the upper right hand quadrant of the Machine Diagnostics page.

If you haven't already download this

Hi,
I take it you have the servo configurator from CNCDrive? Looks like its reasonably easy to experiment with the settings.
Do write down what you start with so that you can go back and start again.

Theres a reason control engineers are bald, it comes from pulling their hair out over PID settings. Oh boy, are you
in for a treat...LOL.

General Mach Discussion / Re: One stepper Motor Acting Up
« on: October 05, 2017, 10:30:06 PM »
Hi,
would have thought that having both motors identical would be the ideal.

Even if you found another motor with the same current rating would the  resistance and inductance of the windings
be the same?

Given that one motor is faulty would you consider another/better brand?

Hi,
do you have a spare PCI slot on your mother boerad?

Need to be a little careful about getting a parallel port PCI card, not all of them work, in fact not many of them work.
I know that Moschip make an IC which complies with the original spec and works. That IC has been incorperated into
various PCI cards. When I get home I will hunt it down.  A working card should only be $10-$20.

The other alternative is an external motion controller. They are way more expensive but also have a number of advantages
which may well pay for you over a period of time.

Hi,
bad luck...I don't think it can be rebuilt. Some of the service information I've seen prohibits disassembly as it
can permanently degrade the 'permanent' magnets inside.

Hi,
are you using a parallel port? Where are you getting those numbers from? In a parallel port db25 plug pins 18,19 and 20
are all 0V.

If you look on the Config/Ports and Pins/Input Signals you will see that pins 10-13, 15 and 17 are available as inputs.
If you have a second parallel port you can optionally assign pin 2-9 as inputs as well. Still no mention of 18,19 or 20.

Hi,
as ger21 says your servo tuning is slightly off.

What servos and drives are you using? For a situation like yours where the setting is very close to right try backing off
the integral component by 5%. You may need to up the differential component by a similar amount. Variations of a few percent
either way around the current settings should suffice. If you find you need a more radical adjustment then I would suspect
some other fault.

Make sure you write the settings down before you start fiddling.
