General Mach Discussion / Re: Feed Rate All Over the Board Question
« on: November 01, 2017, 04:52:12 PM »
Hi Billy,
if you've got backlash then a circle will never be perfect no matter what compensation strategy is used./

Try using 'exact stop' just to remove the CV uncertainty but I dont think CV will have any affect on a circle
toolpath.

FAQs / Re: Arrow Keys will not move correct axis UC100 USB wMach3
« on: November 01, 2017, 02:04:01 PM »
Hi,
when you operate the page up/down keys which motor actually responds? Would it not be simple enough to take the wires to the Z axis motor and hook the into
the motor port of that axis which does respond?

Hi,
as you say the pg up and pg dn keys should jog the Z axis. If they in fact shift some other axis then you have assigned port and pin
numbers to Machs Z axis on Config/Ports and Pins/Motor Outputs page that are connected to either the X or Y motor.

Can you post a screen shot of the Motor Outputs screen? Can you take a pic of the controller board?

General Mach Discussion / Re: Parameters seem off

Hi Brian,
can you tell us a bit more about your machine.

Does it have separate home switches? When you hit <Ref All Home> what happens?

What controller are you using, parallel port or USB? What PC and operating system are you using?

Hi Tony,
I think there may be a little confusion, to sort it out start a thread on the main Mach3 board where others can see, read and participate in it, well get some details
and get started.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Mach 4 with ESS locks up on Cycle Start
« on: November 01, 2017, 06:20:00 AM »
Hi,
no one is sticking their hand up....hope I don't put you wrong!

Daz has explained that Mach has two 'states' or chunks, the GUI and the Gcode interpreter. It sounds like program execution is not passing from the GUI to
the interpreter but may well do later in the session.

In the PLC script there is a bunch of code that runs only on the first pass of the script. I'm thinking that something in that code is preventing it from finishing
and not therefore passing execution control to the interpreter. Proving and finding that may be a different matter.

May I suggest running and saving a log file. It may disprove my theory but you may notice differences in the log entries between those occasions that it works
vs those occasions where it doesn't.

Hi,
to my knowledge the touch module in Mach4, which is very much like the video link you posted, is available in Mach4 only.

All development work on Mach3 ceased a couple of years ago and as a consequence missed out on this feature.

You could of course program it yourself. The probing and numerical parts probably not to bad but the visual components are rather tricky, you are dealing
with Windows graphics environment. If you didn't bother with graphical representations you could do it pretty easy.

I was never very good at Visual Basic, I decided to go straight to Lua and so never developed any skill or fluency with VB so I wouldn't be much help. If you
wanted to do it in Lua I would help, but then the touch module is already in Mach4, no need to re-invent it!

Hi,
not a great deal of info about those boards for Mach3 and absolutely nothing about how they work inside, as for programming them forget it.

There are some motion controllers that do have low level programming, probably the most famous and capable is Galill. Be prepared to pay though....a 4 axis
board with analogue enhancements could be $2000-$3000. I believe Vital Systems HICON controller can be programmed as can Dynamotions KFlop.

With the project you have in mind I would say that Galill have the most mature solutions for you.

VB and the development of wizards / Re: Macro Tutorial
« on: November 01, 2017, 03:00:58 AM »
Hi David,
I was in very much the same position, had used Mach3 without having to get down and dirty writing macros. When I did it was a challenge and then I thought,
'what the hell...if I'm going to learn a new computer language it should be better than Visual Basic, or rather Cypress Enable, Mach3s VB subset, ie it should
be Lua and Mach4'.

Don't get me wrong Lua is a challenge too, maybe even more than VB. Lua itself is easy its once you start adding all Machs API calls and wxWidget calls and
Machs modular structure does it become complex. In addition the programming in Mach4 is modern style, that is to say it is Object Oriented in style and is
quite new and strange to someone like me who cut his teeth on procedural languages like Fortran.

It has taken a while but I am slowly gaining familiarity with Lua/Mach4 and its very satisfying. The complete combination of Lua/Mach/wx.Widgets is very VERY
capable and easily hoses Mach3  and VB into the weeds. I'm glad I made the switch, I was up for the challenge and have been rewarded with a much more modern
and capable toolset.

Hi Mike,
that xml raises a few questions.

First I see that you have two ports defined, port one at address 0x3 and the second at 0x4. You show just the one board, ie enough for one port and not two.
Secondly those port addresses look all wrong.

Do you actually have two ports on your PC? If not, and I suspect not then disable port two in Config/Ports an Pins.
Next go to Device Manager and get the correct port address, I'm going to guess if its a built in port the address will be 0x378.
Next you will have to run DriverTest.exe to see if your port is playing ball. Just as a matter of interest what PC are you using?. You will need a 32 bit OS Windows7
or earlier.

I see that you have THC ON, THC UP and THC DOWN all assigned to pins in port two but not enabled. Is this correct?

I see you have three outputs assigned. Output#1 is port 2 pin 8, but do you really have a port 2? Outputs#2 and #3 are assigned to port 1 pins
10 and 11. Both of those are input pins! They CANNOT be used as outputs. Worse port 1 pin 10 is also your Estop, a clash!

I see on Config/Spindle Setup page you've assigned output#1 to M3,M4,M7 and M8??? What is it that you want output#1 to do...it can do one thing not four?

I note that you have not assigned any switches for limits or homes. Is this correct?

I think you need to get:
http://www.machsupport.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Mach3Mill_Install_Config.pdf and read it. Then read it again. Then read it a third time.

Once you've digested that then we will start. The first thing will be establish the port and using DriverTest.exe to confirm its operation.
Then we will assign ONE input, an Estop. The only really essential input. All the rest can wait until we're ready to cross that bridge.
Then we will assign motor outputs, ONE motor at a time. Maybe women can multitask and do four motors at once but YOU CAN'T.
One motor at a time and test before going on to the next one.
Then assign home switches. If you don't have enough IO it may be time to get some more hardware or ditch that Chinese board and get
something else, there are many better choices.
Then and only the do we start to look at controlling the plasma.

If CNC were plug and play then anyone could do it but its seldom plug and play. You can blame piece of s*********t this, or piece of s*********t that or blame the supplier
or the Chinese or God Himself but in the end YOU have to learn sufficient to solve your problems. Its a steep learning curve but very satisfying.
