General Mach Discussion / Re: Z axis craziness at program start
« on: November 08, 2017, 05:56:45 PM »
Hi,
the limits clearly suggest a Gcode fault and yet you are sure that a Gcode simulator shows nothing of that sort.

May I suggest trying to run the program to just prior to the wild excursion (a G0 move by the looks) so that you can
report the line number or there abouts of the faulty code.

Hi,
OK so the problem is not Gcode.

When you say that the machine attempts to go out of bounds...how do you know the supposed destination of the faulting axis?
Can you see it in the DRO?

I don't have soft limits configured, and the homing switches are disconnected at the moment
I think this is a mistake. I operated this way for about a year and suffered quite a few crashes until I fitted
decent home switches. I reduced the number of crashes by over 95%. I now regard good home switches as a must.

Hi,
I presume also that you have no home switches or you are not homing your machine prior to use nor do you
have softlimits setup or otherwise the machine would fault out rather than pursue a toolpath that takes it
out of bounds.

Hi,
I don't know whats causing the fault but you should have a CNC viewer program which allows you to apply
the Gcode you want to use and see the toolpath prior to commiting it to your machine.

I use a free one NCviewer but there are plenty of them out there. Another one I have used from time to time
is Camotics.

Hi,
buying shoes for the woman of the house....that's a way more difficult than CNC...they seem to reject one pair of perfectly good ones as 'totally wrong'
yet fall in luv with another pair which as far as I can tell are nearly indentical.

No...unless flowers have become a symbol of capitulation...flowers are good.

Hi,
that is Lua code, is that what you intended?

If that is the case this post would ideally be in the Mach4 Discussion.

This API call was pointed out to me when working on another matter:
Code: [Select]
rc = mc.mcSignalWait(
number mInst,
number sigId,
number waitMode,
number timeoutSecs);
I stumbled a bit, it turns out the valid range of input signals is 0-63, ie  Input#1 thru Input#64. With a suitable test of the return code a timeout fault
can be indicated/acted on. Note that you don't even have to get the signal handle. A very useful API call.

Hi,

Quote
CNC Programming Handbook  by Peter Smid
is very widely regarded as the 'bible' of CNC. Its hardly an exciting read but it is thorough.

Some of the simpler Wizards in Mach generate code and is worth studying the code to see if you can understand it, Rectangular Pocketing, Rectangular Bolt Pattern,
Circular Pocketing etc.

Hi,
why? You will spend how many dollars to get a nice looking screenset? A touch screen?  And then be locked in to a manufacturer who will insist that any
addons or customisations must be purchased through them? Look, Ive got some bottom land I want to sell you...cheap as your such a special friend...would
I put you crook?

That screenset looks very much like Mach4 Industrial. With Mach4 you can make the screen anything you want. Touch screen is about the screen and Windows,
my touch screen laptop runs Mach fine. Bigger buttons helps but the touch screen is fine.

Further you can download Mach4 for free and start playing with it, new screen colours or whatever for as long as you want with the Sim(ulator) plugin.
