General Mach Discussion / Re: Nmotion Controller

Hi,

Quote
The good news is that this device has been reduced a bit in price.  I purchased the 6 axis version last year at $172 US and I think it's now down to about $120.

Don't know about you but even a $10 board that doesn't work is still expensive. I bought an ESS, paid $180 + shipping but it worked right from the start. When I had problems
the Warp9 Tech guy was right onto it and had me running in a couple of days. Warp9 have released six new Mach4 plugin builds in the eighteen months since.  Money
well spent!

Hi,
are you using a parallel port? Is it possible that your BoB is expecting 5V but your PC is producing 3.3V.
It does happen and some BoBs dont respond properly.

Hi Louis,
good news! Your the first person who has responded that they can get the board to work at all.

Hi,
lower right hand corner, the TO247 device, cant read it but guess is a MOSFET or IGBT. Not sure what the IC north
of that, logo =L, whats the part no.?

I would be testing the MOSFET/IGBT and make sure you have continuity through the resistor (the big one top
left).

Hi,
downloaded the manual and yes they are active. Do you have the line detect terminals populated, I rather think
they will be needed.

How do you feel about opening it up to have a look inside? I fix welding equipment, a lot of inverter stuff, for a living
and am quite used to inspecting/repairing switching circuits both single phase (320VDC Link) and three phase (585VDC Link)
and that's when the manufacturer is not using PFC boost.

If I recall your previous posts that you are Austrailian? Surely we can cooperate to fix it.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Motor Turning Errors

Hi,

Quote
Is this a bug in the system?
Given the thousands of Mach users a bug of this description would stick out like a sore thumb, I doubt therefore
that there is a fault.

When Mach makes a corordinated move the axes move at velocities such that the slowest moving axis can keep up.
If you had a slow Y axis say then could expect the X axis to slow in sympathy so that they can remain coordinated.

May I suggest some experiments:

1) MDI G0 X200
          X0
          X200
X0    will cause X axis to move backwards and forwards at the max traverse rate on your motor tuning page
modified by any rapid rate override that may be in operation.
2) MDI G0 Y200
Y0....etc Repeats the experiment with the Y axis.

Do the axes move at the same max speed when moved independently?

3) MDI G0 X200 Y200

Did the axes move the same distance in the same time (coordinated) and did the controlled point move at 45 degrees?

Hi,
I have an identical drive for a 1.8kW servo used as spindle motor.

If I recall correctly the 050,010,020 and 030 drives are not fitted withe the switch which engages the
brake resistance. Again from memory the braking module for these drives has a switch (MOSFET/IGBT)
inside. If that is the case there is a distinct possibility that a module is faulty and with bad luck two faulty
modules is not impossible either, they are after all right at the business end and come under extreme stress.

I no longer have the manual but it is a free download from Rockwell Automation.

Hi,
apologies if I have offended, how ever the pic shows that you have disregarded my suggestion.

2.) Do not allow the current set resistor to touch pins 2, 3, or 4 on the DB9 cable. This will set off a FAULT condition in the G540
This from the G540 manual. I'll repeat my suggestion that you disconnect the motors don't cause a fault condition.

Hi,
let me guess you've got everything hooked up and its not working so you are doing things t try to get it to go. You are doing a scattergun thing.
You cannot multitask...your wife may be able to ....but you cant.

Disconnect everything, the motors, the homes and limits, everything except the power supply and the Estop circuit. Work on the Estop alone until you get
it working and understand why.

Then hook up one axis only and work on that.

Trying to get it all going at once will likely see you hit it with a hammer in frustration.

Hi,
do you have a manual? A circuit diagram? A picture? Anything?

I'm not a crystal ball gazer.
