Hi Ken,
when you are posting just to the left and below the text input pane there is a 'Additional Options' link.
When you are ready to attach a picture or diagram or whatever hit that.

Note that the attached file will have to have a unique name, the website will not accept a file with an indentical name.
Also if you are attaching photos please preprocess them on your PC so they are about 500kB. Many people post pics which are so big
you have to scan around to see it all and often still miss the critical detail that was the purpose of the pic in the first place.

Hi,
when I read the spec of the BCH2.F I saw a continuous torque of 2.39Nm which is slightly more than the SEM's you are replacing.
That's plenty.....you will never even get close to absorbing the power that servo can produce....underpowered! :o

Remember also that power is torque times speed. Even without changing the gearing the BCH2.F will have more power right throughout its
rev range up to 3000 rpm, thereafter the SEM nudges ahead. Will you ever get close to 3000 rpm? 1:1 on 5mm pitch screws is 15m/min,
so not even close.

We have a customer who has an oldish twin column Okuma CNC, its freaking GINORMUS, and its Y axis motor is 1hp. It lunks around the
main spindle which is 50hp and weighs 1/2 a ton or more.

A 1hp axis motor will drive your lathe within an inch of its life!. You would still end up with a satisfying build by gearing down 200W servos,
you might start to notice the reduction in rapid traverse but you wouldn't see much difference otherwise.

Hi,
how do you intend on gearing it?

Low lash planetary gearboxes are worth as much as a servo.

If I read correctly the servo you are looking at (BCH2.F) has an 80mm frame and a bolt hole pitch circle of 90mm, is this correct?

The SEM you are replacing is an MT30, correct? If that's the case then the motor is 110mm in diameter and the pitch circle of the
bolts is 75mm. Is this correct?

The BCh2.H has a 100mm frame and a pitch circle of 115mm, would that not be a closer physical fit?
I would be trying to couple in directly, no gearing.

Hi,
I may have lead you astray....there is a patch .062 to cure a problem with Window 10 updates.
There are issues with Windows 7 updates also, it may be neccessary to manually remove the updates.
A search should reveal the thread or threads that discuss it.

This deals with Window 10 updates:
http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,37291.0.html

This mentions the Windows 7 updates:
http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,37670.msg257402.html#msg257402
Check with Byranna, she seems to be keeping an eye on developments.

Hi,
not sure about your development PC but the machine PC sounds like a recent Window 7 update
has caused a fault. There have been a lot of posts about it over the last couple of months.
I think there is a patched version of .062 which solves it. The machine PC should be kept off the internet
so it cant update, the last three monthly updates have caused Mach to reboot as you describe.

Hi,
that is still not the question I asked. Does it go up or down?

Hi,

Quote
Are work and machine coordinates the same
No they are not the same.

Machine coordinates are relative to the 0,0,0 set by your home switches.
Work coordinates you can shift around and are usually zeroed to one corner of the piece of material.

The Work Coordinates are numerically equal to the Machine Coordinates + the Work Offsets.

Your description is still confussing. Hit <Z+> jog button. Does the Z axis go up?

Hi,
whoops I think I'm confused my self now!

In WORK COORDINATES jog <Z+>. Does the Z axis go up? If so every thing is correct. If not
then the Z axis is reversed relative to industry wide understanding.

Hi Ken,
that is the correct direction but normally Z=0 is at the top. The machine coordinates don't matter
that much, Mach uses them. You will use Work Coordinates.

Anyway once you hit <Zero Z> on the surface of your material you'll be set.
