Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Mach 4 Reference sequence Question
« on: November 11, 2018, 06:24:03 PM »
Hi,
the real strength of Mach4 is the facility with which it can be programmed to do such things. The greatest weakness of Mach4
is that you have to program it to do unusual things.

I must be said that Mach4 as it is doesn't require the feature you want.....it can machine parts in absence of that feature no trouble.

If you want some particular feature then you will have to program it and therefore learn about Lua and Mach's modular structure.
There is a learning curve. Remember if you don't like it.....the reason you're doing it is because you want some specific thing not
otherwise provided for.

Having stood on my soapbox and possibly scared you; what you want to do is easy.

How much do you know about Mach's structure? In particular can you open the Screen Editor and navigate to the Screen Load script,
the PLC script etc? If this is unfamiliar to you there are some videos covering it released by NFS in recent months. Unfortunately
the re-direct feature of the forum is on the blink so I can't link you to it.

In this case you need to put a few lines of code in the PLC script. The PLC script is somewhat analogous to the macro pump in Mach3.
The PLC script runs every few milliseconds. What you what it to do is ask the question 'is the machine referenced....if so turn on an output....if not
turn the output off'. This will run hundreds of times a second and so the output will reflect the state of the machine virtually continuously.

For the purpose of writing code I would recommend opening the Zero-Brane editor and creating a new file within your profile...something like
/TempWorkFile. It gives you the chance to write the code and have the Lua compiler compile the code checking for errors. You can also use the debugger
to run the code for test purposes. Once you have code that you think is going to work THEN copy and paste it into your PLC script.

I'll write some code and post it soon.

General Mach Discussion / Re: help with pulse engine
« on: November 11, 2018, 05:56:58 PM »
Hi,
if you are planning to use a parallel port then you seriously do not want ANY....stress ANY other software
than is absolutely required on the PC.

I heard it described 'when a PC is connected to and controls a CNC machine it is NO LONGER a PC but a machine controller'

I you follow or subscribe to this advice then there is no need for dual boot, that would be to suggest that this PC can be used
as general purpose PC. What you are inviting is loss of control and potential crash of your CNC machine.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Mach 4 Reference sequence Question
« on: November 11, 2018, 12:59:25 PM »
Hi,
yes there is a way to establish whether is referenced, its in the API.chm which is found in your Mach4 Docs
folder:

LUA Syntax:
homed, rc= mc.mcAxisIsHomed(
      number mInst,
      number axisId)

Description:
Check to see if axis has been homed.

Hi,
is your Windows 7 OS 32 bit? The parallel port pulse engine will not install on any 64 bit OS.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: MACH4 Pendant
« on: November 09, 2018, 03:06:43 AM »
Hi,
I'll try and find the thread but:

Quote
You think he might publish the source code so I could contribute to it?
No he can't. In order for him to get the required info from NFS to write the plugin he has to sign a N(on) D(isclosure) A(greement)
which would prevent him from publishing or even sharing it.

Perhaps if you had your own NDA then he may be tempted to share.

Regrettably the forum search function is on the blink....so finding the thread may be a battle.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: MACH4 Pendant
« on: November 08, 2018, 01:11:46 PM »
Hi,
to my knowledge there are only a few pendants which have a Mach4 plugin.

I use a VistaCNC pendant and it works well, its not wireless. VistaCNC is the only company to have produced a Mach4
plugin for their hardware. The plugin has its share of bugs.

XHC has a couple of pendants that work with Mach4 but XHC did not write the plugin.....that was done by an interested XHC pendant
owner. He has been deluged by requests by others to improve and expand the plugin to work with other XHC models including
the wireless one. He has got sick of it.....its not like he gets anything from it and he has a family and a job etc.

If you really want a wireless pendant the market is wide open.....make and then sell your own.

Mach3 under Vista / Re: Mach3 usb port&pin setup

Hi,

USB 6030.
is not a make and model.

You need to post some details about the controller. Chances are that being Chinese that you will find zip about them.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: XHC Mach4 USB motion board warning and info
« on: November 08, 2018, 12:46:55 AM »
Hi,
as far as I can tell from feedback posted about XHC....its rubbish.

https://warp9td.com/ Ethernet SmoothStepper  is the model of choice.
https://www.cncdrive.com/ UC300 is the model of choice.
https://www.poscope.com/ 57CNC is the model of choice.
https://www.pmdx.com/ PMDX-424 is the model of choice.
http://www.vitalsystem.com/portal/index.php HiCon Integra is the model of choice.

Each of these models have their strengths and weaknesses but ALL of these companies support their products, have been in the Mach game
for years and they work as they are advertised.

Some recommend:
https://en.cs-lab.eu/shop-cat/cnc-motion-control-system-csmio-products-sets/ I think their Mach4 plugin is just too patchy and they
are too expensive for what they are.

Hi,
you can have up to four active probe circuits in Mach4.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Aligning Slave Axis Gantry
« on: November 07, 2018, 12:34:52 PM »
Hi,
Squaring the gantry is a process that is offered (usually) by the motion controller, not Mach4. In the link you posted the squaring
parameters are set in the HiCon plugin....not Mach4 at all.

I am not familiar with the HiCon but am very much more familiar with the Ethernet SmoothStepper. It too offers gantry squaring.

It is possible to program Mach4 to square a gantry. Quite some months ago I was involved in a thread (Mach4 board) which concerned itself
with 'slaving' and 'un-slaving' motors on a gantry programmatically. This allows you to temporarily 'unslave' a motor, jiggle it back and forwards
to square the gantry and then once squared 'slave' it back to the master motor.

In the first instance I suggest you use the features/facility built into your motion control plugin. If that is insufficient then consider writing
some Lua scripts to do as you require.
