Show"N"Tell ( Your Machines) / Re: Need help with motion controller
« on: July 14, 2019, 02:11:51 AM »
Hi,
if you want a motion controller under $100 that pretty much precludes any European or US made controller,
thus you are talking Chinese. The Chinese controllers are Mach3 only and buggy as hell at that. They might be
cheap but they are rubbish and many a buyer has had to throw them out because they don't work and the
manufacturer is in China....that's China in a distant galaxy!

If you want to have three position sensors then you need to consider Mach4 very closely. Mach4 allows up to
four probe channels whereas Mach3 only allows one. Thus with Mach3 you have to use some hardware multiplexing
to achieve more than one probe channel.

If you come to the conclusion that Mach4 is right by virtue of the number of available probe channels then your choices are:
1) Ethernet SmoothStepper by Warp9 approx. $190, three ports IO.
2) UC300 or UC400 by CNCDrive, approx. $150 and $140, 5 and 2 ports IO respectively.
3) UC100 by CNCDrive approx. $120, one  port IO only, and don't buy one of the many Chinese fakes, buy direct or from the
    nominated distributor.
4) PMDX-411 by PMDX, approx. $120, one port IO only.
5) PMDX-424 by PMDX, approx. $250, two ports IO, built in power supply and breakout board.
6) 57CNC by PoKeys, approx. $150, 57 inputs/outputs or 3.25 ports IO equiv.
7) 57CNCdb25 by PoKeys, approx. $120. one port IO only.
8 ) Hicon Integra by Vital Systems, approx. $600.
9) CSMIO/S by CSLabs, approx. 600 Euro, Mach4 plugin still a bit buggy, hard to recommend at the price despite superb build quality
10) Gallil, various models, approx. three axis start price $2000.

All of the manufactures listed support their products, there is little to pick and choose between them it that regard.

While the single port (12 outputs, 5 inputs) controllers (UC100, 57CNCdb25 and PMDX-411) may all appeal on the basis of price
they don't have enough inputs to satisfy your project requirements. You might get away with some complex hardware
multiplexing to get around the dearth of inputs. I think that would be false economy.

The PMDX-424 and the UC400 have two ports, ie 32 inputs and outputs, whereas the Ethernet SmoothStepper, UC300 and
57CNC all have more. I would recommend any of them to be a match with your project requirements.

The three more expensive units are just that.....way more expensive, not surprisingly they are good quality.

Of these my preference is the Ethernet SmoothStepper (ESS), partly because of familiarity but also because it has the most up to date
and fully featured Mach4 plugin with features like realtime THC, Laser rastering/vectoring and spindle PID. If may be you don't require
any or all of the extra realtime support features, but then again you will have this controller for years and it may well be you
wish you had A,B and C features down the track.

A note of caution the UC100, PMDX-411m 57CNCdb25, ESS, UC300, UC400 require a breakout board or boards, the 57CNC benefits
from breakout board or more than one.

Breakout boards can be very simple like a C10 at $23.00 (bi-directional non-opto isolated) up to a MB3 at $180 specifically
for an ESS with all three ports developed. May I suggest you consider a minimum of $50 for two simple breakout boards.
Best to allow for it now than try to squeeze the budget later!

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: SSR Relay Forward Reverse Help
« on: July 14, 2019, 01:17:56 AM »
Hi,
what on earth are you doing? The whole point of using relays is galvanic isolation between the input (coil)
and the output contacts.

If the output is somehow back feeding, even powering up the PoKeys THEN STOP IMMEDIATELY.
Disconnect everything, you have gone wrong somewhere. What circuit diagram are you following?
If you are not 100% on electrics then you cannot 'wing it' or do it 'by eye'.

Still need the specification of the relays, the coil voltage particularly.

How have you got Mach setup?
1) One relay for ON/OFF and another relay for FWD/REV....OR
2) One relay for FWD, one relay for REV. If neither is operating then the spindle is OFF

Either MN300 or I will help with a circuit diagram.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: touch probe function question
« on: July 14, 2019, 01:05:27 AM »
Hi,
I'm out of my depth, please ignore my previous post. As I have said there is no documentation AFIK to help you
interpret the log file.

Code: [Select]
2019-07-13 13:50:32.623 - API: mcCntlGcodeExecute() called. (G 91
F 5)
2019-07-13 13:50:32.823 - Attempt transition from "Idle" on event "MDI Start" Controller.cpp:1811
2019-07-13 13:50:32.823 - S_IDLE_on_exit
2019-07-13 13:50:32.823 - ACTION_start_mdi
2019-07-13 13:50:32.823 - S_MDI_RUNNING_on_entry
2019-07-13 13:50:32.823 - S_MDI_RUNNING2_on_entry
2019-07-13 13:50:32.824 - Signal id 1114, (Gcode Running), changed from LOW to HIGH.
2019-07-13 13:50:32.846 - API: mcCntlEStop() called.
2019-07-13 13:50:32.846 - API: mcCntlEnable(false) called.
2019-07-13 13:50:32.846 - API: mcCntlCycleStop() called.

Look at the first line:   mcCntlGcodeExecute() called. (G 91 F 5)

Look at the retract move: G91 F5.....so where is the axis command?. G91 sets relative mode, the G31 previously executed
sets the motion mode of G1. Thus your G91 F5 says linear interpolated move at feedrate of 5......but what axis? If I'm not
mistaken....'It is an error if no axis word is  commanded'.

Hi,
the log file you posted never got as far as a retract move.

Code: [Select]
2019-07-13 13:50:32.848 - Signal id 1120, (Machine Enabled), changed from HIGH to LOW.
2019-07-13 13:50:32.848 - ACTION_stop
2019-07-13 13:50:32.848 -
2019-07-13 13:50:32.848 -    $$$ ESS: Mach4 was Disabled - Force Output Stop Sates Now
2019-07-13 13:50:32.848 -    !!! ESS: Stop Event IGNORING command to turn OFF DISABLED output Port1-Pin14 - Spindle ON Relay
2019-07-13 13:50:32.848 -    $$$ ESS: Finished processing the Stop Event
2019-07-13 13:50:32.848 -

This occurred at the end of what appeared to be a successful g31 probe move. The g31 executed, the probe event was detected
and yet at 13:50:32.848 Mach4 was disabled, and apparently by the ESS if I read the log file correctly. Its not easy to
interpret a log file but I'm sure smurph or Chaoticone or Daz or......will assist.
The reason the machine never retracts is because Mach is disabled BEFORE the retract is enacted.

Solve the problem of the 'probe clean-up phase' so Mach is not disabled and the bet is everything will work OK thereafter.

Hi,
post a picture please. Those relays came equipped with a variety of different coils.

Sounds to me lie you are using AC on a DC coil or vice versa. A close up of the spec is required.

Hi,
you can download it and run in  demo mode. If you have no motion control plugin installed, ie Sim(ulator)
is the ONLY motion plugin, Mach4 will run without interruption and with ALL the functionality of the licenced
version.

If however you have a motion control plugin in your plugins folder then Mach4Hobby will run for six minutes uninterrupted
and with full functionality before requiring to be reset. It behaves identically to the licenced version, if fact it IS
the licenced version, the licence file prevents the need to reset.

Hi,
so what actually happened? I presume from reading the log that you MDI'ed a g31 z-5.25 f5?

It appeared in the log file that the probe move occurred, a probe event was detected, the motors were set to still,
the position was latched, the remainder of the move was cleared......all looks normal.

What did the machine do?

Hi,
the 'bounce' chaoticone is referring to is electrical double operation and/or noise on the probe circuit.

Try increasing the debounce or input filtering on your probe signal line. A substantial capacitor (0.1uf -1 uF)
