Of course, you are correct that the system has no way of knowing which limit has been hit.

Its worse, Mach thinks that all nine switches have been hit at once....and that explains the great big long Log entries about all the switches being activated.

I wasn't the one who set it up originally, but to be fair it has worked fine this way with Mach3.

And you could, at a pinch get the same working in Mach4.....but that's like saying 'my old Model T had trembler coil ignition, so it should work for a 2023 model car as well'

What's going on? You have just one input for ALL the Limits and Homes....how is that supposed to work?

How does Mach know for instance that its intended that the X axis home switch operates , it could just as easily be the Y-- switch, Mach can't possibly know.

I have three Home switches, one for each axis, each on their own ESS input. I have 6 Limit switches, two per axis for all three axes, there again each on their own input,
for a total of nine inputs. Then Mach knows exactly which switch operated and what that portends.

You need to re-think how you are going to Home your machine...this arrangement is sub-par.

I would recommend in the first instance just forget the limit switches altogether. Just have three Home switches, one per axis each on their own input. That will allow Mach
to Home as intended. Thereafter use SoftLimits. Note that SoftLimits ONLY MAKE SENSE IF THE MACHINE IS HOMED.

You have a ESS that has a total of 51 inputs and outputs, there is no need to economize, they are there to be used so use them.

Hi,
torch zeroing is done by g31 probing. Issue a g31 move which takes the torch in the negative direction until it touches the plate. The contact event is sensed by electrical
continuity to the plate. The position at which the 'probe event' occurred is latched into registers within Mach ready for use.

well it was worth a try, as I say I've had errors of that type before. It the definite downside of a language  with seeming variable typing rules where C is typed up the yazhoo!

Do you know if Mach3 is still being maintained?

All development on Mach3 ceasd eight years ago. The last bug fix was donated to NFS by MachMotion I believe, were it not for that I rather think Mach3 would have been screwed.

I hate to do it because it doesn't look like my ethernet smooth stepper is supported elsewhere..

Warp9TD's Ethernet SmoothStepper is and always has been a Mach ready motion controller only. The current Mach4 is very well supported and complemented by the ESS.
At this time there is no API for the ESS although there is plans for an API.

I've often had code cock-ups and one of the common themes is Lua storing a string when I expected a number or vice versa.

I don't know if you've had a chance to play with Lua String functions. At first glance you'd say that these so few and so basic functions to render them less than useful.
But then you start using them and you realise they can in fact do about anything and compare closely to POSIX compliant string functionality....and yet the string function
table (yes all the functions are members of a table) is only about 5kB!!!! Lua surprises that despite its simplicity is as flexible as it is.

not to my knowledge. Lua has an incredibly small code burden and is blazing fast, one of the fastest scripting languages and not that very far behind C,
but it does take some big shortcuts. It dose not have a Boolean, for instance, in fact it one and only one type of variable, a table. Even a single value is in fact a table
with just one entry. The entries in a table are type free.....ie no Boolean.

Hi,
you are using wx4.set a four axis screen set, but only have a three axis machine. You have to disable homing for the A axis because you don't have one.
