Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Where to find M3/M7/M8... macros
« on: March 30, 2020, 02:59:33 PM »
Hi,
those macros are integral to Mach4, they are not viewable or editable.

What you can do is write your own. When a Gcode program or MDI encounters an m3, for instance, it will search in the first
instance in the macros directory of your current profile. If it finds a macro called m3 it executes it. If it doesn't find it it searches
'up the tree' until it does and ends up with Machs integral m3 and executes that.

First thing to notice is that I use lowercase. Machs Gcode interpreter when it parses Gcode or MDIs it converts uppercase to lowercase
and strips out leading zeros (and whitespace). Thus:
M3
M03
are both equivalent to m3.
And:
G00 X0.6 Y0.8
G0 x.6 y0.8
are both equivalent to g0x.6y.8

In most circumstances Windows is not case sensitive and will correctly deliver M03 when its searching for m3....but sometimes
it doesn't.....and you'll have a hell of a job trying to work out what the fault is. I suggest you get in the habit of using lowercase
letters without leading zeros in Gcode and macros and save yourself some grief.

If you wish to write your own m3/m7/m8 then your version must have the same basic functionality as the integral macro
but you can have your macro do extra things if you wish.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Mach 4 homing
« on: March 29, 2020, 05:56:24 PM »
Hi,
You don't have a freakin' A axis, that is your Mach3 thinking. You've been told three times, once by Steve
and twice by me to remove all reference to the A axis. This makes the fourth....

There should be no motor assigned  to the A axis and it should not be enabled.

On the Homing/SoftLimits page the home order of the A axis should be zero, ie it does not home at all.

On the InputSignals page the MotorHome0 though MotorHome3 should be populated with there respective
home switch input pins, per my previously posted screen shot.

If it does not work thereafter I can only conclude the XHC doesn't support slave  motors...surprise surprise!
If that's the case you can try contacting XHC, and good luck with that, OR buy yourself an ESS, it works as advertised
and Andy (Warp9 Tech Rep) is on-line 8 hours a day 5 days a week for support.

Hi,
secondly you have not assigned home switch inputs correctly, they should not be
Input1, Iinput2 etc they should as I indicated earlier be Motor0Home, Motor1Home etc.

If you scan down the list of InputSignals you will find the block of MotorHomennn's underneath
Input63.

I notice also that you must be using an XHC controller, its not clear to me that the XHC plugin can
accommodate a slaved axis. The plugin is that buggy that to my knowledge you are the only one using it.

Hi,
YOU DO NOT HAVE AN A AXIS!!!

The A axis (axis 3) should have no motor/motors assigned to it.

Steve and I have said the same thing, you have an X axis (axis 0) with two motors motor0 (master)
and motor3 (slave).

You are still thinking Mach3 where a slaved axis was axis A.....thats not the case with Mach4.

Note....axes are numbered axis0 through axis6 for the six axes X,Y,Z,A,B,C.
Motors are numbered motor0 through motor31....yes that's right, you may have up to 32motors in Mach4,
and you can have as many as SIX motors on one axis, the master and up to five slaves.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Limit switch and home switch question??
« on: March 29, 2020, 02:48:30 PM »
Hi,
the mm/inch button you refer to is equivalent to a G20/G21 command which directs the Gcode
interpreter that the current Gcode/MDI is in either mm or inches.

What you are looking for is called the native units. Config/SelectNativeUnits, see attached.

At the moment your native units, these units are those the Mach uses to calculate motor tuning, homing, limits etc
are mm's. Once you set them LEAVE them alone. That does not mean your machine is limited to mm (or inches),
thats what the button or G20/g21 are for.

So at the moment your 'StepsPerUnit'=400 and
'MaxVelocity'=3200

MaxPulse rate= 400x 3200
                    =1,280,000 pulses per minute
1280000/60 =21.3333 kHz

Thus if you leave the kernel speed at the minimum 25kHz default Machs parallel port is still fast enough for your motor
tuning.

Hi,

All Other functions good. Mach3, same hardware good.

I thought you said that you could not control the speed, how then can you say all other functions are good?

Hi,
have you tried the setting I posted?

Have you considered an regular PWM to analogue board?

Hi,
Canterbury here, be careful what you wish for...you may get locked down and its not that much fun either.
The fact that you are working suggests you are in good health...and thats good news.

Hi,

Quote
The issue here is that I need Step/direction control to operate the C11's voltage output, and there is seemingly an issue with ESS/Mach4 when spindle control is not based on PWM.

Natively Mach4 and the ESS are for PWM. But it sounds like your C11 has a frequency to voltage conveter in it rather
than a PWM to analogue.

One alternative is to get a BoB that has a normal PWM to analogue circuit in it, the C25 ($29.55) for instance.

The other alternative is to use step/direction control....Mach4 can certainly produce a step/dir signal pair for a spindle.
See attached. All that would be required would be to ensure that the step output of the ESS be assigned to the
(spindle) step input of the C11.

Hi gyrojeremy,
I notice your link to your hall sensor was to a NZ Jaycar site....are you Kiwi?
