Hi boydage,
Mach4 is a total new software program, I doubt there is any code in Mach4 that could be uplifted from Mach3.
That's why you are expected to buy Mach4 as a new product. If as you suggest NFS did a twenty buck upgrade
then they would not have resources to do any of the things that they have with Mach4, and they have done lots of kool
things and have a vastly more stable product than Mach3.

I just paid $192USD for a whole bunch of carbide tools for my mill, and that's not the first and certainly won't be the last
order for carbide tools. In fact over the six years I've been using Mach4 I've spent something like $1500 on carbide tools alone.
What I'm getting at is that $200 for Mach4 is actually one of the smallest expenses/investments I've made in my mill.

I'm building a new mill, this time I'm getting the beds cast in iron (115kg each) and the frame in SG cast iron (300kg), and just the castings
alone will cost $7000NZD, or about $4000USD and compared to that Mach4Hobby at $200USD is a steal!

Hi Roger,

Because I can get a pirate copy for free from China?

Thats a pretty good reason that all development ceased in Mach3, I mean why would anyone bother continued development
and investment if users just pirate it?

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: controller
« on: October 23, 2020, 10:40:44 PM »
Hi,
as Graham has pointed out those two external motion controllers are readily available and competitively priced, but they
have one 'ports' worth of IO (12 outputs, 5 inputs).

An Ethernet Smoothstpper has three ports worth of IO for a total of 51 inputs and outputs, a Pokeys 57CNC has 57 IOs
and a UC300 has 85 IOs. They all cost a little more but mean that if you wish to expend, particularly inputs, at a later date you can.

Hi,

charging almost $200 for a 2004 software,

If you buy Mach3 then yes, all development stopped on Mach3 six years ago, and no-one has try to pretend otherwise.
You could buy Mach4, and that is $200, and it is being actively developed and supported. You choose Mach3.....why??

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Where did the Machine Diagnostic tab go?
« on: October 18, 2020, 05:19:05 AM »
Hi,
some screen sets have a Machine Diagnostics tab and some do not. The screen set in use is in the lower right hand corner
and your screenshot is of wxRouter.set.

Try wx4.set or wx6.set.

Hi,
the fact that its random and happens on tried an trued Gcode files suggests electrical noise to me.

The UC100 is a great little controller but is subject to electrical interference. This is a recurring issue with USB connected
controllers.

In the first instance use a short, short as possible USB lead of the best quality you can find. Install ferrite  split rings, one at each end and one
in the middle.

You should run your spindle through a GOOD line filter at a minimum and a line reactor a best.

Additionally it sometimes helps to draw AC supply for your spindle from a different AC circuit then the AC supply for the PC, controller power supplies etc.
This type of electrical noise is called 'conducted noise' an is often overlooked by CNCers. Line reactors are the best remedy for spindle induced
conducted noise.

SmoothStepper USB / Re: ESS with C11G R9 wiring

Hi,
the VFD should provide a 10VDC (and COM return) supply for the PWM output of the BoB.
There is a 10VDCoutput on the VFD an the PWM terminal of the BoB will modulate that to the required 0-10VDC.

The BoB switches the relays which in turn energise or de-energise the FWD/REV and START/STOP inputs on the VFD.
Whether you use a VFD derived supply, a BoB derived supply or your own independent supply is often a matter
of convenience but depends largely on the VFD inputs.

Hi,
I think you mean a 'pendant' sometimes also called an MPG.

I use a VistaCNC P1A pendant and have done so for six years.

There is one model of Chinese pendant (XHC) that is wireless....avoid like the plague!
In fact there is NO credible wireless pendant for Mach4.

Hi,

Quote
i've been struggling with this for way too long. about to buy a different board.

Correct answer and don't buy another Chinese made junk board either, make sure its US or European made, I
would recommend an Ethernet SmoothStepper by Warp9TD, any of the UC********* series by CNCDrive, or a PoKeys 57CNC.

Hi,
do you have the closed loop activations for the Hicon?

The Hicon can close a control loop so it will be a matter of using what Vital Systems  publish about their controller.

If you wish to go the Mach3 Brain way.....don't....too slow......too clunky.

Get Mach4 and try PMC to see what a real Brain can do. Note that you can program in Ladder logic (PMC) or you
can code in Lua (PLC), both are an order of magnitude faster than the similar Mach3 versions of the same thing,
and way WAY more flexible, capable and robust.
