« on: October 22, 2007, 12:39:26 PM »
Hi All:

Welcome to the smoothstepper forum. This group is moderated by Greg Cary , the inventor of the smoothstepper.
Its purpose is to ensure timely movementis done on any reported issues . SO list here any questions or issues that arise from the use
of a smoothstepper, or ask any questions pertinant to that device.
As of this entry, the SS is not released, but in preperation for Beta list users to have theirs delivered. 2-3 weeks projected
till that time.

LazyCam (Beta) / Re: LazyCam Pro 2.55 Offsets

Hi:

Those arcs with lines are not artifacts , they are leadin's. Just double click them and turn them off.. They are used to make a cleaner profile in some work because they give a smooth entry and exit.

On th eoffset, try zooming in on the display, then offset, does that make it offset?

General Mach Discussion / Re: Galil 1842/2900 mach 3 setup

Hi Norm:

Sorry, there will be a bit of a delay on this one, Brian is out of town till end of week
meeting with variosu OEM's. Ill ask him to send me a new Galil build when he returns, I suspect the current Galil
plugin needs a recompile. Try pressing shift while jogging, I suspect the slow jog is broken till its recompiled..

Brains Development / Re: Art gave us all some Brains.
« on: October 09, 2007, 10:22:42 PM »
Hi Guys:

I expect, some of the items in the brains are tumourous. Ill cut them out as I find them, some of the LED's and such
may no match expectations for example. However, I have tested much of the brain function, and all looks well. I still
have more lobe types to add over time, but quite a bit of simple logic modifications to your system can be done with
the current brains.
I should point out that Brains do not replace all macro's, and while they can replace some , they really are meant to augment
macros and allow macros to be easier to do as the brains can handle some of the logic involved.

Anyway, list bugs, or good brains for us to use here..

Thanks

Hi Guysd, this is a vectorArt 3d model that I cut to put in the stairwell of my house,
to overlook people as they walk down the stairs. I really like the artwork, took 40 minutes
with a 4.5mm ball mill in teak..
I got the model from http://www.vectorart3d.com/ . They seem to have a talented sculpter..

General Mach Discussion / Re: were can i find more I/O pins
« on: September 07, 2007, 09:26:45 PM »
Whacko:

This comes up about every year or so. :) , its a common misconception. While your right, a 1 woudl be 254 o's followed by a 1, and a 255 woudl be a 1 followed by 254 0's , image the need to turn on 3,4,6,3,1,23,45 bits at the same time.
Cant be done. What your describing woudl take a strobed input changeing every n microseconds with MAch3 reformatting the data. Trouble is, the printer port is strobed for data only every 40us so 255 x 40us woudl be 10ms, which means the highest speed any input coudl be is 10ms, AND thats only if you can find a way to sync the pattern change to the input strobe internally. Of course this could be done with MAch2 putting out a bit to say "change state", then accepting the resultant bit combination as an input byte. BUT then youd still have to sync what number is expected, so I guess in that case MAch3 could put out a number from 0-254 to indicate what pattern to accept next, BUT that still makes all inputs only 10ms
in granularity, vs the 40us they are now. 40ms is bad. Its a long time, Youd be much better of simply doing TCP modbus input where you could get much lower than 1ms per input with over 16000 inputs done each 10ms.
While many have thjought at first glance that doing a binary decode of an 8 bit input byte is possible, its actually a very slow way to get data in a polled input system. Each input is limited to 1 bit of data in reality, so the interface is 255 times slower than youd think..
