General Mach Discussion / Allen Bradley Guru's
« on: November 12, 2011, 01:48:38 AM »
Doing some research on Allen Bradley AC servo drives. It appears to me that the -SE versions do not have step and dir inputs like the other models. Can anyone confirm this?

General Mach Discussion / Swapaxis and Spindle Relays
« on: November 10, 2011, 02:37:18 PM »
So I'm in the process of setting up a 4th axis with the capability to also run as a spindle to turn on. There is a great thread on here where such a project was done and there is a ton of good information. He utilized the swapaxis function to swap his spindle and his 4th axis and it worked great for his setup. My problem is that my spindle runs on relays and even with the swap function the relays stay active. It would be very helpful if there was a VB function to disable/enable the relays. There is a checkbox in setup for it so all I need is a function to control it.

That all said I figured a work around out using a custom brain, a User OEM LED and two unused outputs. It looks like it will work but it's kind of Rube Goldberg.

I could also use an interrupting relay on the motor relays controlled by another output and another brain or macro group. Again kinda barbaric.

So is it possible to get at the setup options from VB?

General Mach Discussion / Re: Call User Button From Brain

Scott I looked around but did not see the post you reffered to. Do you happen to have the link? I actually fixed my current issue with a brain that took care of everything. It would be cool to still be able to do this however. There are some things I'd like to expand on with the brain like Messages and stuff. Plus just knowing how to do it would be cool.

I was able to use the Marcopump to do what I needed but by the time everything triggered it was too slow. Was that how you did it in the other post?

Thanks,
Damon

OK Scrap the Macro - I've got a brain that will do everything I need it to do.

Ok I found the Enable/Disable X-C Toggle button commands that do what I needed. I created a button to disable all the axes and wait 5 sec and then enable them. The plan is to call this button or a macro from a Brain triggered on the Enable 1 output.

I can't figure out how to call the user button or a macro from a brain. Any help there? I'll keep reading if not.

General Mach Discussion / Call User Button From Brain

Can I call a User Defined Button from a Brain? Or Even better just a saved macro?

I played around with different options with marcos. The problem is that virtually nothing works when the system is in Estop. So I can't just delay the reset button function or toggle other output pins.

What I really need is for the system to go ahead and do the reset but then freeze the machine for 5 sec. Is there a program function that will freeze the machine so it can not be jogged? Also the job start would need to be inhibitted I guess but I can address that seperate.

They share the same line as the reset. It has been covered here before. Without adding a complicated curcuit there is no way to easily do this. Even then it only provides limit type stops to Mach. Does not fix the problem that as soon as I hit reset Mach thinks it can move the machine. At least I haven't seen an input option that will do this in Mach.

Seems like a simple thing to do to me. The reset function is built in however and not a macro I can edit. I suppose I could replace the standard Reset button with a custom one that does my delay and then does the built in reset. Anyone ever do this? How do I call the built in reset function?

I guess what I'd realy like to see is a gerneral setup screen option for reset delay. Maybe add that to the want list for Mach.

Is it possible to add a delay to the reset routine. I am using G320's and they have a delay once enabled. I'd like the system to wait for a few seconds to allow the drivers to come ready before the software will respond. Currently if I reset and immediatly jog the machine it will move the software DRO's but not the machine.

Hood - XP SP2.

My guess is that the people using breakout boards are not having this issue. Especially if it has a charge pump on it. In my case however I have custom opto rerealy and direct switch inputs to the parallel port. Here is the test procedure i used.

Hook up two LED’s with resistors to pins 8 & 9. Hook a grounding switch to pin 15 or any other input pin. This will also require a pull up resistor. Reboot the PC. After reboot and before running any software look at the state of your LED’s. They should be on. Now ground your input pin and wait 5 sec. If you have a later version of XP the LED’s will both go out. Also pin 2 will pulse FYI.

Load Mach three and notice they remain out. Now toggle the spindle (set it up on pins 8 & 9).  After a couple toggles the LED’s will start responding how you would expect.
