General Mach Discussion / Re: Sqauring the Axis

I am not taking apart the machine to fix the issue. Thats crazy.

It's actually sound engineering practice, which I'd firmly recommend, fixing a lash-up is always a good idea ;-)

Before asking this question have you checked for Smooth Stepper support for Mach4?

I believe there's an override check box somewhere which also has to be set to allow homing to work with a switch which is both home and limit, I have this running on my Z but it's so long since I set it up ... ;-)

Your G-Code specifies units of movement, G20 tells the controller (Mach3) it's inches, G21 mm

I think you misunderstood me

No,
I was responding to the OP's post, as his settings are obviously off, I'm afraid I don't have an answer for the question you've posted on his thread ;-)

Have a look at the classic video tutorial for this,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A27nOkTFYDY

backlash comp speed at 20% is so low as to sound weird and slow things down so much as be not much use, after following the video and making the appropriate adjustments and changes my backlash comp runs great.
Note that the backlash in the video is in the order of .001, mine is a little more on one axis but I wouldn't expect backlash to work for slop that gets into whole numbers!

Manufacturers predominantly develop and support their own plugins so they should be the ones to know,

General Mach Discussion / Low Profile PCI Express Parallel Card?
« on: August 11, 2015, 03:21:32 PM »
Does anyone know of a decent PCI Express (the type for the sockets that are about 1" long) parallel card?
This build is for an Ethernet Smooth-stepper but it's always nice for PCs to be interchangeable and a parallel card would give me that,
TIA,
Nick

General Mach Discussion / Re: XYZ Can't Find switches Why!

If you're not seeing the switches changing state on the diagnostics tab then you aren't getting incoming signals.
Time for diagnostics on all the things in the chain starting at the end of your choice ;-)

Look on the diagnostics tab while you manually operate the switches to ensure you're getting signals to your port, if you are go to -

Config - Ports & Pins - Input Signals - Automated Setup of Inputs

and configure your inputs by manually actuating the appropriate switches.

I just had to go through full setup on a Windows 7 machine and was surprised how much of the setup I'd forgotten about,

Nick
