make sure it is a .dxf that is compatible with lazycam, if using autocad, try using the R12 version when you select save.

If you can use txtexp in autocad, and want single line text, use vivaldi, or *.txt in Multi Line text.

hi Rich,

i googled the command, txtexp, it came back saying it was only in versions since R14 and not available in Autocad LT, also, it may be in express tools under some versions.  which version do you have, i have 2008.

Kevin,

Perhap it's worth looking into the speed and set up of your motors.  When i set my machine up initially, i had the speed of the motors too fast, this made the controller miss out steps and gave weird results.  maybe this could be part of the problem.  also noise may be getting into the controller, try moving it away from sources of rf like the pc or power plugs.

Hi,

I'm a newbie as well, but i may be able to help. Not sure why it went a bit random on you, but if you only have trial versions of the software, you will have limitations of gcode etc.  this goes for lazy cam also, if you have the trial version, you can't specify offsets to choose which side to cut for instance.

 in response to your questions-

It only matters as to which is better for the job

Each time you click optimise, it changes the route

It doesn't seem to matter when you do the layering.

Hi,

Generally, I'm asking help for stuff, but this time I have some invaluable info for everybody using autocad with text entries.

If you are trying to put .dxf files with text into LazyCAM, then you need this tip!

Draw your text into autocad, whatever font you like, then type this command in:

txtexp

select your text as the object.

voila, you have now exploded the text into multiple lines which most cam packages should handle as polylines.  If you find that some shapes are still linked, use the regular command, explode, to finish it off.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for that, I guess the way forward is to ensure a proper .dxf in the first place.  I looked at my original .dxf and found that there were quite a few breaks in the lines when zoomed in close-up.  Now, I can go straight from my .dxf into lazy cam!
