Thanks Russ, it was a great help.

Thanks Russ for the pointer, it looks like the answers are all there.

Thanks Hood, that makes a lot of sense. I'll have a look at the plugin. The controller is not too bad, but getting support from the manufacturer is not easy.

I'm using a PLCM-E3 motion controller which has worked well for the few jobs I have used it for so far. Today I'm having a problem with the motion controller tripping out when I move the image in Toolpath with the mouse. The error that comes up is "Device not connected". I have no way of talking to the manufacturers, they don't respond to email and they have taken their website down, so any help would be appreciated.

I've heard of a similar complaint in the past by someone, could this be a known issue maybe?

Cheers.

General Mach Discussion / Erratic Output When ActivateSignal is Used.
« on: October 15, 2014, 03:47:16 PM »
I'm getting an odd set of symptoms from a BoB I've got set up in a bench rig.

Using a very basic macro that activates an output until an input signal is seen at one of the input pins, I am getting strange results. When the output is activated and the pin measured with a voltmeter, there is a steady 5v and the diagnostic LED flashes evenly. However, when a  5v relay is attached to the pin, the LED flashes erratically and the relay becomes unstable, toggling on and off.

From ports and pins, if the "Active low" option is checked or unchecked, the relay switches in accordance without problem. It is only when ActivateSignal is used on the switch side of the relay that the problem occurs.

I also have a brain setup that activates another output whenever an axis is moved. This scenario works fine with the relay, toggling it on and off in stable fashion as the DRO is altered.

I have tried the setup with two BOB's and the problem is the same. The two BOB's are similar but not the same.

I'm using Win 7.

I'd be grateful for any help - Cheers.

Brains Development / Brains won't debug.
« on: October 03, 2014, 02:22:28 PM »
I am trying to get a brain to talk to a PLC via modbus. Modbus is working well but when I try to debug  and have the View Brain screen to the foreground it won't debug.

To test the situation on sure ground, I re-created the simple brain in Art's video that sends an output to Output 2 if the X axis moves. The problem is still the same. The minute the Viewbrain screen is minimised, all works well, but the moment I try to debug, nothing happens, I.e. no output indication in Diagnostics and no debug in Brainview.

My PC is not connected to anything other than the PLC, and is working simply as a test bed.

I'd be grateful for any advice, cheers.

General Mach Discussion / Getting to a machine coordinate?
« on: October 21, 2013, 02:55:26 PM »
Is it possible to send the axis to a machine coordinate like G00 or G01 sends it to a fixture coordinate. I have a tool changer that will only function close to the Z home limit, when a trip is set. I am manually changing tools at the minute and having to jog to the Z axis position which takes time. It would be handy to be able to send the axis to machine zero with one command, rather than nearly tripping the limit each time I get close. Thanks.
