General Mach Discussion / Amateur question - mach3 with plc
« on: April 07, 2014, 10:24:45 AM »
Hey guys.

Curious to hear how you incorporate a plc into a mach3 setup. Would be wanting to have the plc look after all inputs and outputs (where possible) also tool changes. I get the plc programming side of things but how does the plc tell mach3 what is going on.
Do you use something like Ethernet connection between pc and mach3

Ok I just set my safe z to -0.5 Mach co-ord.
Didn't have a lot of time to stuff around with it but did a rfh and it moved to z -0.5 first then xy. Then prompted for cycle start. So far looks to work a treat. Thanks a bunch hood

Righto I think you just fixed my problems.

I have not done anything with the safez setup.  I have seen it in the config but didn’t know what it did so left it alone.

I will check out what is going on there.

A the moment the prep move is to z- then to xy. Once at the xy position z will raise up and then it will ask to press cycle start and the spindle will start and machine will run.

Will report back once I get a chance to get into the shed.

Sorry to hijack the thread but just thought it was sort of on topic so chucked it in this thread.

I can't seem to get my rfh to work as I hoped. Maybe the answer is the 'set next line' as I hadn't pressed that.
It works currently but the preparation  move is always a Z- and 90% of the time this move will crash into the job while the spindle Is off.
So it moves, z- first then in xy till it gets to the desired location then z+ to get ready for cycle start to run from here

Any ideas as I am sick of starting jobs over if I have to do a rfh

Righto will have a look for it. How would that have changed or could it have something to do with the pendant plug in

I will change that if I could find it,  spent 5min looking for it. Any ideas.

Used the mill mostnof today and not one run away.

General Mach Discussion / rz axis runs away when i move my mpg in x+
« on: June 04, 2013, 04:15:15 AM »
having a wierd issue where the z axis runs away in the z+ direction every now and then when i move my vista cnc pendant in the x+ direction.

this causes the machine to crash as the limit switches dont trip in mach3 when this happens and the drives trip out from overload and the axis is still running away according to the screen,

i have to shut down mach3 and even after a restart of mach3 the program will open and i still see the z axis dro numbers rolling on.

if i manually press reset then the numbers stop but  as soon as i release the reset the z numbers start rolling again.

any ideas?
