SmoothStepper USB / ESS / G540 / PMDX-126 WTF? About to give up
« on: April 28, 2014, 08:43:52 PM »
 Hello All
I am trying to integrate a Smooth Stepper / G540 / PMDX-126.  I understand the G540 is its own breakout board but I just want to use it as a motor driver.  I spoke with PMDX and they said it was possible to get this to work by (I think) hooking up the G540 to PMDX-126 (J19).  Smooth Stepper Port1 to PMDX Port 1 and Smooth Stepper Port 2 to  PMDX Port 2.  I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I just cannot get it to work.  I am pretty sure I am missing some things in ports and pins and maybe some other things in Parallel Port / Smooth Stepper settings.  Any advice / detailed instructions / Application Notes would be greatly appreciated. I have wasted well over 40 hours trying to figure this out when I am pretty sure there is a simple solution.  I am about to give up and call it a day, which I really don’t want to do.  Please advise

General Mach Discussion / Re: Setting machine Coordinates
« on: October 11, 2012, 02:47:31 PM »

My buddy and I have build a Joe's CNC machine.  We are having a couple of configuration problems.

I want to set machine coordinates to zero.  I have set everything up in the Homing/Limits screen including Auto Zero.  When I home the machine DROs move in the correct direction as well as my X&Y axises.  When the gantry gets to the home position it hits the home switches and then backs off an inch as I set it.  The problem is that Machine Coordinates do not zero out.

The next issue I am having is I have a A slaved to my X axis.  These two axises are not in sync.  So the A axis will reach zero before the X axis and the A axis will stop while the X axis keeps moving totally tweaking the gantry. >:D

Note:  I have X home and X -- set to the same pin, and Y home and Y -- set the the same pin also.  Everything tests ok in the diag. screen.  All set to Active Low.

Can somebody tell me what I am missing?
