General Mach Discussion / Re: Mach3 crashes if left running
« on: May 14, 2013, 10:04:27 AM »
A wireless network has wreaked more havoic on my machine than anything hooked to it since or before and I try to break things.  I would get the blue screen of death.  I'm quite sure you have another process stepping in at some point........... what it is I don't know but do keeps us posted on your findings please.  Have you looked at the optimization file?  Most of it is rarely necessary any more but it will give you some ideas what to look for I think.

Thanks Jim,
The PC has no printer or other devices connected. It does have a wireless internet connection but that does not seem to be an issue while I am using the software. The only software I have on the PC is Windows 7, Firefox and Mack3.

General Mach Discussion / Mach3 crashes if left running
« on: May 13, 2013, 09:17:43 AM »
Hi Everyone,

I am still very new to CNC and suffering the Newbie issues that I think are normal.
I have Windows 7 32 bit,
a Grizzly CNC Mill (G8689) with
Gecko drivers and I get air cuts often.
Getting air cuts is for a different time. While looking into the air cuts, Mach3 crashes with two error codes:
Error 8890 followed by Error 9991 which seems fatal. Mach3 closes.

This has happened several times. The length of time I leave Mach3 running is usually hours but when left running overnight it crashes.

  Any help would be great.

add more current

The main issues have been bypassed. The 24V supply is working fine and the Mill is working well. I'm running down the last bits of backlash. I have polished my X and Y ways (which fixed a lot of the issue). Still have uneven backlash in X axis. Working on that...

Ger21, Hood, any others,

I had to purchase a copy of W7 so Mach3 would get interrupt service from the hardware. After a very long day yesterday (loading two separate PCs with W7), I am now up and running and looking to place the limit switches and wiring the rest up.

I am using W8 (Release Preview) because I do not have a third OS license. W8 is not release as a complete package however anyone can download it and install it at this point for free. It makes sense for me due to the touch screen I have on this PC. I guess I will have to install some other OS or wait for Artsoft to support W8. There is one guy on this forum that has W8 and Mech3 running but he has a different MOBO so that will not work for me.

Yup, the motors are not turning.

Hood,

Nope, it is Windows 8 and it is 32-bit OS. The DRO shows movement. I will be able to connect the Gecko driver to the PC in a few hours. If the Gecko drives the steppers than no issue.

General Mach Discussion / Mach3 under Windows 8 on ASUS P8B75-M
« on: September 01, 2012, 01:25:40 PM »
Hi everyone,

I have Mach3 running on an xFX PC with Windows 7 but that PC can't be used to drive the Mill I am making. I bought and built a new PC with a ASUS P8B75-M main board which has an on-board parallel port. When I load the Mach3 parallel port driver the PC will not restart due to an unhandled exception. Not installing the Mach3 parallel port driver allows the PC to restart with no issues however Mach3 will not operate. The issue is that under windows 8, Mach3 does not seem to get interrupt service so the Diagnostics screen shows +0.0 for the "Time in Int."

Any ideas?  ???

I would really like to get this thing together and attempt to Mill a block of butter (er Drlrin) this weekend ;D

Oh one last item. I doubt my 24V 14.6A supply is going to drive the motors per the Gecko spec. I'll need a higher voltage at the same current.

They Work! They Work!

All motors are turning and I have very little left to do to have a working CNC.
Tune the motors,
Attach the motors to the Mill,
Add the limit switches and wires,
and get a CAM program.

I'll have a 21" touch screen display, no keyboard (well, on-screen keyboard),
A Grizzly CNC with near zero backlash as opposed to the 6mm in X, the 12mm in Y and 13mm in Z I had.

I'll be a happy newbie to the CNC world...

I'm running the steppers at 2.2A so if I have problems I can increase that up to 3.5A.

I'll post pictures when it is all up and running. ;D
