General Mach Discussion / Re: Constant Torque vs. Varaible Torque VFD
« on: June 01, 2019, 10:47:33 AM »
Thank you for the response. Is Bosch Rexroth EFC5610 available in the US? I didn't find much info on US sellers for this drive. I've been researching VFDs online.

Here's a good introduction to drives. https://precisionautomation.net/2019/04/10/adjustable-speed-drives/

General Mach Discussion / Constant Torque vs. Varaible Torque VFD
« on: June 01, 2019, 09:45:07 AM »
I have a vertical knee mill with a 3hp 3-phase motor that I would like to power with a VFD, using mach 3 for speed control. It is a 4 pole, 1725 RPM, 8.9 amp unit.

Would I need a constant torque VFD, or a variable torque VFD for this application? What is the difference?

Would the motor lose any power by using a VFD vs. using a rotary phase converter?

Does anyone know whether I can use an accu coder to replace the encoder on my vmc 3020?

This is the encoder on the top of the spindle motor. The part number is OE5043 but there are conflicting info online about this part number. Fadal & others (ABB, Radwell, etc.) seems to want to charge close to $1,000. I believe that I may have found the OEM that builds this encoder, but I'm not sure.

Is there a readily available compatible encoder that I can use? Hope you can provide some guidance.

General Mach Discussion / Spindle Frequency?
« on: January 11, 2019, 09:25:43 AM »
I bought and installed a new 1.5kw water-cooled spindle with an inverter to run it. Inverter is https://www.valinonline.com/products/esv152n02yxb . Now whenever I switch the spindle on it triggers my limit switches (in Mach3) and I can only reset it when the spindle is not running. Would adding a line reactor to the inverter help? Spindle and limit switch wiring is all shielded and properly grounded.

I'm virtually at a standstill. Any help?

Modbus / New to PLC, using do-more PLC to control Lenze VFD
« on: July 19, 2018, 11:40:21 AM »
Hi there,

I have a project that need to use automation direct do-more PLC to control a VFD which is Lenze ESV222N02TXB https://www.clrwtr.com/Products/ESV222N02TXB

I'm new to PLC and never done anything about modbus. But I watched the webinars and got the frame of the software.

Now, I still don't know how to connect the PLC with the VFD. I can program the PLC and make it the master, but I don't have a chance to program the VFD.

I saw that some people are using Mach3 to do something similar to what I'm trying to do.

So I'm here to see if anyone can tell me from the basic steps how to set up the connection between the PLC and VFD through modbus.

Appreciate for the help.

Regards

I have a -10V to +10V signal from a device which I would like to control a AC Tech VFD with https://www.clrwtr.com/Products/ESV751N04TXC.

I want at -10V the motor to reverse & at +10V the motor to go forward. At 0V the motor should stop.

Can this be done?

Brains Development / Read from Multiple Coils
« on: February 21, 2017, 08:43:39 PM »
I'm trying to read from multiple coils in a brain.

My Lenze VFD has the control bits in coils 0-15 and the spindle speed setting bits in coils 16-31.

http://www.actechdrives.com/PDF/Lenze/Lenze-8400-BaseLine.pdf

I can control and read from the VFD in the Modbus test screen. The VFD can be stopped by addressing just one bit in the control word but will not start using that method.

I imagine the value in the brain would be a decimal representation of the binary word, but I don't know how to break that up for sending to the individual coils in one action.

Any pointers on reading 16 consecutive coils and processing them as a 16bit word, and/or sending a 16bit word to 16 coils?

Thank you in advance for any help.

General Mach Discussion / Looking for a relay with a small footprint
« on: February 08, 2017, 06:07:38 PM »
What I'm trying to do is essentially make a strobe light. I have a lighting machine what uses 110 for the output for the lights to create lightning. I also have a 100w led that runs on dc 34v. I'm trying to find a relay with a small footprint that will be fast and play nice with everything.

I'm considering an option from Comat/Releco but it is pricey.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Third party software and hardware support forums. / VFD controller plugin
« on: October 27, 2016, 12:56:21 PM »
Is there a plugin for Hitachi NE-S1 VFD http://www.clrwtr.com/Hitachi-NE-S1-Drives.htm to allow Mach3 to control the operation of the VFD via RS485 communication port?

Thank you for any guidance.

General Mach Discussion / RS485 & RS232C serial communications

I've been working with Panasonic FP0R series controller http://www.clrwtr.com/PDF/Panasonic/Panasonic-FP0R-PLC.pdf to interface with Mach3. My issue is that ModBus seems a bit random in its ability to work. I've tried three different ModBus converters, all with the same basic results - no response, random responses, etc.
