i have to stare at the led for a long time to see it flicker and when it does its one or two quick flickers. i am using a craftsman router for 2 yrs now. Prior to it not working correctly i hadn't changed anything for months. since the problems began last friday. i have changed the BOB, unshielded wires to shielded wires, printer cable, touchoff plates. only thing left is to put in a capacitor, i'm just not sure where to put it. what are the chances that 2 BOB could be bad causing the same problem? everything else works like a charm.

here is a list of my electronics:

i have grounded my case, the shields on my wires. i have changed my printer cable. i have created a new profile in Mach 3. still having the original problem, the probe light flashes and the touch off doesnt work. i did run the driver test as suggested in the Mach 3 manual. when the test firsts starts it says the pulse is too fast, it comtinues and at the end it says everything is OK. i am open to suggestions. i dont think a capacitor is going to fix anything but thats all i have left.  could it be a Mach 3 problem or something with the screenset? this bums me out, since i really like the screenset and the touch off portion. i use the tool change in all my g codes, makes things so easy to just change the bit and press a button. next best would be an automatic tool changer.

i wonder if my printer cable could have gone south?  Does it make any difference that when i start mach3, sometimes i get a Mach3 screen and sometimes i get an Artsoft screen?

no i havn't grounded my electronics to the case yet. its on my list for today. just seems strange that this problem has just come up. the screenset has work correctly for so long with unshielded wires . i will keep at it. do you know if Mach 3 works with Windows 8? i have been thinking about upgrading my computer that runs my machine, it uses XP.

well today i changed the wires on my fixed plate, moveable plate and for the bit to shielded wires. still have the same problem. i did notice that if i hooked the wire for the bit to my housing that contains all my electronics that the probe light flashes. i think my problem is a ground problem but strange thing is that all my electronics are mounted on a piece of wood and not to the metal case they are in. go figure.  as i have seen in diagrams, my plates are connected to the 5v pin next to pin 13 on my BOB and the bit wire is connected to pin 13. if i let the zero cycle run its whole routine, sometimes i get a message saying that bit is lower than my fixed plate, even though it never touched either plate. im pulling my hair out.

no i dont see any mesage but in the diagnostic screen i do see the probe box lighting up breifly. sort of a random pulsing. i will spend some more time on it today. good thing im retired.  how would i be able to tell if the M881 macro did indeed go bad?

Well i changed the wiring to my touch off and fixed plates to shielded cables. i am still having the first part of my problem. the first touch off to the work piece still moves about 20 thousands. the second half of the cycle works ok now gantry moves over my fixed plate and the z axis drops down and the bit touches off my fixed plate. i changed my BOB also and that didnt make any differance. i thought maybe it would. i'm a bit confused the touch off sequence has worked good up till last week. i did not change anything on my machine or to the software. should i try reinstalling the sceenset? if it comes down to needing a capacitor what size should i use. i have a Radio Shack a few miles from the house.

I have mach 3 screenset 2010. recently i have been having issues with the touch off. i am in G54 and i have zeroed x, y and z. when i got to use the double touch off the z axis will move about 20 thousands and the retracts and starts to head off to my fixed plate. it never touchs my work height plate. when it gets down to my fixed plate it lowers about 20 thousands (never touching the fixed plate ) then it comes back and wants to run the g code. i have closed mach3 and saved the fixture and not saved the fixture. but it still wont go all the way to either touch pad. i have checked all my settings nothing has changed. i'm not sure what to do. i have even shut down my computer and restarted, same problem.
