I am very new to all of this and have 2 issues:

My most important: I did a test cut (router) of the letter A....I said I was new..... I am using BobCad, the size of the letter was to be 3". It came out 3 11/16". Also the plunge was to be 3/9" and was 5/8+.  The 2nd plunge was the right 3/8.  On another trial cut the lettering was to be 4" high and 32" wide.  It came out 4 13/16 X 40"...... BobCad says the G Codes were correct. Looking for help on this one.

My 2nd issue: When opening Mach 3 on my laptop I have lost the screen of the Mach window.  It used to work, now it does not.  It does work properly on my work computer.  Any help out there on how to get it back?

Getting over my head.  I do not have a lot of experience with the dual parallel ports.  The only time I used one it was an A or B port.  The use was to have 2 printers set up so you could print 1 copy on plain paper and switch to letterhead.

I have not had the need to try other devices.

Not sure, the dual pieces I have seen are more or less an A/B switch....Either/Or.  If that is the case it would only be faster than unplugging and re-plugging in.

The parallel ports are the problem. Newer computers are not using them.  Also you have to be sure yours is a 32 pin not 64.

I have a guy in SW FL that just set me up with a used Dell with 2 parallel ports.  The computer works great, 90 day warranty  and he is there for support. (he has lots of them)

I paid $300 that included a flat screen monitor, 2 ports, mouse and up dated Video card.

Let me know if you need his name.

Hey dseaver I know what you mean as being a NEWBE.  I have just learned to set up a G code, I am using BobCad.

I went to run it with Mach 3 and the tool path window shows it running but the head does not move.

I went to the config. videos and now my motor controls are all screwed up. (up/down moves A, Y moves X, Y moved Z and nothing moves Y)

The fun of all this is overwhelming.

I have 0 experience with this type of equipment, but I will get there.

Any advise?

You asked for new....You got it.

Until 2 months ago I never heard of Mach 3 or G code. Today I have a 4x4 table w/z axis, a bunch of programing I am having a hard time understanding and I have not cut anything yet.

I will be cutting with plasma and a router.  My background is in carpentry.  I want to start producing items that incorporate my wood background and metal art.  I will be offering items fore sale on my web site (not produced yet) and as a wholesaler.

Well how is that for NEW?
