General Mach Discussion / Feed not changing on Mach3
« on: May 19, 2013, 02:28:49 PM »
I am making my G codes with BobCAD 24.  Up until now everything has been working OK. I think, I have not paid much attention to this issue.

I have been making tests to fine tune my cuts.  To start I have been changing my feed. I did this by re-posting a code, I use BobCAD 24.  Again, I re-post, not editing a used code.

What I noticed is on the Mach 3 screen the feed speed does not change with the new G code.  I can not swear it ever did.

I can change the feed using the Mach screen, but it does not necessarily go to what I want.

Anybody have my answer?

I do have another issue and have a separate post.  Is is dealing with my ARC OK.

Looking for answers and help.

Thanks, Bob

General Mach Discussion / ARC not OK
« on: May 19, 2013, 02:18:08 PM »
I do not have a ARC ok on the Mach 3 screen or the Texas Micre 301d when I am running.

I was getting a pierce but no movement. The pierce would last until I shut it off on the Mach screen.  I shut off the THC on the Mach screen and I began cutting again. However, I do not get an ARC OK signal at the THC or the ach screen.

The good news is I am cutting as well as ever..

Texas Micro suggested it is the torch (TD A40). ?????? At their suggestion I am going to run the test boards again.

I do have a 2nd issue and will post it separately.  This issue is dealing with my feed speed not changing, on the Mach screen with a new g-code.

Any help will be greatly accepted.

Thanks, Bob

I have not made any change to the pierce ht. yet.  I will try both.  Thermal Dynamics says .18.  Others have told me that is too high, that is why I have dropped to .16, then was advised to the .09.  ???

I am cutting 14 ga. at 100 ipm. and at 105 V.

The same person that told me to go to .09 also told me that because I dropped 20 ipm. from the chart I also had to raise my volts to 112-115. Is this right.  I dropped the ipm. because of dross buildup that was hard and the A40 manual called it high speed dross.  Any thoughts on this.

Thanks for the reply

Hey guys, I have 2 of you involved...Thanks to both.  I will answer both of your responses and hopefully we can get this going.

The THC is a 301 with a single knob control. Pardon me for not knowing what you mean by plugin and screenset.  The only screens I have been working with are BobCad and Mach 3. I am using a Thermal Dynamics A40 and cutting at 40amp.  Randy from Texas Micro does not know BobCad so the setting up the tool, he does not know.

BobCad is writing a new post for me.  I have been talking with their techs and the code writer.  Not sure what changes are going to be made.

Randy also uses SheetCam.  He thought ProCut would have sent me that software but Rob at ProCut says I do not need it, I have BobCad.  ???

Again pardon my ignorance but I do not know what you are talking about or how to build the functionality into macros.  As an old photographer, macros is close up focusing.

Between you guys and a guy named Jonathan from Plasma Craft I am picking up things fast.  Jonathat has told me to ground the plasma chassis and the table.

To my knowledge the only way I have ti adjust the torch ht. is by setting the pierce ht. in BobCad.  When I get the pierce and no fire, if I change my volts +/- will this assist the position to pick up the gasses signal?

Talking to Jonathan last night I told him that I have slowed the ipm. by 20. He asked if I ramped up the volts to compensate. I had not, could this be the source of my problem?  I changed the feed to lower the dross.  Do you two have any thought on this?

Well enough from me, I am anxious to hear from you two......Thanks for taking me under your wing. ???

Thanks for the look.

The company that sold me the table, Gecko 540 drive, THC and BobCad software.....He is no help what so ever. His response to me has been "I onle offer tech support on what I build, not on what I sell"

Set up; this company does not even give an setup illustration on putting the machine together. It had=s been a fight all the way.  This should tell you there really has been no setup other than what I have done in my un-qualified way.

I do set the feed with BobCad. I set this at 100 ipm.

I will set my Rapid to 1", Thanks.

I was told by another person that I should set my pierce at .09 and to raise my volts to about 112-115 because I slowed the ipm. by 20.

This sound right to you?

 Thanks for your input.

BR549....Could you also look at my other post? It is about 4 down from this one asking about a Pierce and no axis move.

Thanks.

Hood told me your name and to discuss my plasma questions with you.  Nice to know I already was.

I am using BobCad V24 for my programming software.

I do not see a spot to set the cutting HT. for Plasma.  Is there a field I am not seeing or should I adjust my Volts?

I looked this up. I can see the parallel between what my codes look like.

You mention my using G28 instead of G31. This is set in BobCad, nothing I do.  What would happen if I went and edited all the G28 and changed to G31?  What did you find that G28 did and what was the change with G31?

This forum post started  with my getting a pierce and no axis movements.  Let me tell you of today:

I ran a design 7 times with a little dross and some angular from the right side of the torch.

I loaded another design and it would not move after the pierce.  I reloaded the first design and got the same reaction.  I am dumbfounded.

The only difference between the post above is the GOO Z0.16 instead of GOO Z0.25 above.

When I shut off the torch I measure the torch ht. as 1/8".

Id get one person suggesting I ground my table and I did this between the successful runs and the 2nd design.

Well thanks for hearing me out.....Any thoughts you might have are greatly accepted.
