General Mach Discussion / Beginner Questions: switching between Metric and Imperial

My new Legacy Maverick came pre-installed with a specialized version of Mach 3. Coming from an US manufacturer of cause it was setup in Imperial. I have run some code using the proper imperial post and everything works fine.

I prefer to design in Metric (usually within Aspire or Fusion 360) and would generate the code and use the metric post. Unfortunately it doesn't seem as simple as Load the code using the proper post and Mach3 would auto-adjust. I tried. didn't work/
I contacted the machine manufacturer and was told the following:

While Mach is loaded, go to the tab Operator > VB Script editor > M999 > and locate...SetVar (1002,0)   '0 = English 1 = Metric
Switch the from (1002, 0) to (1002, 1) for metric. Close and save the script, and the close and reopen Mach to enable the change.

That means I have to close and reopen Mach 3 (inconvenient, time consuming) and I am not sure whether I have to reset my machine as well after I closed and reopened Mach 3. One would think I would have to start from scratch, home the machine, set the heights etc.

As we have about 190 countries on this planet running metric and just 3 running imperial I am sure I am not alone with the desire to switch back and forth. Has someone experience with it and can give me a hint which would be the easiest way of achieving what I want to do?

Hello all

I am Volkhard and live at Florida's Gulf Coast. I am kind of semi retired, between businesses, between jobs depending what the future will bring. I have some CNC experience in a professional environment using Biesse Machines and their NC controllers and Biesse Works software a couple of years ago.

My newest endeavor is a new Legacy Maverick I just received.

It runs a specialized version of Mach 3 and I am using Aspire for the design CAD part. I prefer to work in metric but will run some imperial code as well when needed.

Getting Mach 3 to do that elegantly and easy is my current roadblock and I will post a question in the forum.

I have to start to get deeper into MACH 3. It probably will take some time and a lot of reading and some posting in this forum to get proficient with the software.

Hola from Ecuador  

I am Volkhard and just recently relocated from the US to Ecuador for early retirement.

Originally from Germany I migrated to the US in 1994 and started a woodworking business. Over the years I aquired machining centers (starting with an used Biesse 13S, upgraded to a Rover 20 and lastly and Rover A. Operating and programming (under Biesse Works with the newer machines) was always fun and successful.

Ecuoador ist mostly still in a pre-cnc stage, at least for I found so far. For hobby reasons (and matching my very limited budget) I am contemplating to get one of these Chinese machines (jcut 6090A) that could be delievered to my local seaport for about $3k incl. shipping with a 2.2kw spindle. I am aware this can't be compared to anything I had before, but it will be fun to do some things with it and to dig into more technical details. Software wise I lean towards Vcarve pro from vectric.

As far as I know, these machines are coming pre-installed with Mach3, hence my interest in this forum. If I finaly decide to go through with my purchase, for sure I will have quite a lot of newbie questions and I hope this forum can be of any help and get me up and running, so I can pay it forward in the future to other newbies.
