General Mach Discussion / Re: mach3 turn threading issue
« on: September 18, 2019, 02:56:46 PM »
h
i have used the cnc4you break out board you are using on a few lathe projects & never had any problems ,they worked 1st time & every , some times doing 300 parts with threads in a day
i used the proximity switch that you can buy from cnc4you , you have to mount these within about 20 thou's of your disc on the back end of your spindle but you have to use a disc with an extension leg  because a proximity switch will not work with a slot , you also need to get a decent length of signal to get a very speed range , on my machines the measuring leg is 1" + in width this gives a very stable speed from 50 to 2000 rpm which only alters by 1 rpm over such a wide range & can thread at  600rpm for a 5/8" x 26 tpi thread
hope this helps

hi mike
does the bob you are using do threading , in the past i have seen bob that are only designed for milling
all the best

hi
something i forgot to mention last night was i used the c3 boards at one time but found them very unreliable , i have 4 off on my bench that will not work . i have been using a round proximity switch  from cnc4you for the last 12 months & it has worked very well , the only problem is it will not work using a plate with a slot i had to use a piece of ali about 3 /4" wide x 1 1/4"long to cover the slot & overhang the edge of the plate , i will look at my xml to see what settings i had
all the best

hi
what are you using to get the signal for threading ?
change the pin you are using from 15 to another pin it could be a bad pin on the parrallel port ?
i had the same problem as you about 18 months ago & it took 12 months to sort & it was a silly problem that could have been sorted very easily , i was using mach 3 062 version on a windows xp system  & all i did was to buy a windows 7 32 bit system and loaded all my old xml files , tool files and all other files needed & it started working  as it had done before
this is the type file i use for threading for 1/8" bsp external thread

General Mach Discussion / Re: Spindle RPM and Threading Problem

hi
is the spindle speed you are getting very steady , something in the range of + or - 1 rpm  deviation if this ok then that is a part of the threading cycle
please find the type of program i use for doing thread programs for my machine
this program is for a M14 x 1mm pitch external thread , this is a hand coded program

hi
the version of mach 3 you are using is no good for threading ,you will find threading works better with an older version of mach 3 , i use 062 & have never had a problem with threading

hi rich
i have 3 off c3 boards all with problems , i have even sent 2 of them to a friend who is an electronics engineer to see if he could repair them for me  , he found cracked tracks on both & loose items on both boards that hadn't been soldered properly
all the best

 hi
looks like i have found my problem ,does anybody know if there is a design for an index pulse board on here or the internet that will hopefully solve my problem or maybe a trade supplier that does a reliable item that works all posts will be answered
thank you
