Brains Development / Brain File Format
« on: September 24, 2009, 02:49:46 PM »
I want to generate brains from my own program and would like to gen the logic in xml. If I can get the file format I can convert. Anyone have it?

I found it. Your test gave me the clue when it said RAD MODE. Looking in my Machinery handbook I found the minor DIAMETER for .05 pitch on 1" tube should have been .05. When I knocked the depth down to .025 it worked fine. Sorry again. I really do try to solve these things myself.

I changed to 15 degrees and I can see no difference. Here's the photo

I thought g76 always went at 29 degrees but I didn't see any evidence of it. The cross slide angle was the 29 just in case.

General Mach Discussion / G76 giving bad threads
« on: August 13, 2009, 03:40:15 PM »
OK I have my licensed copy of mach on a very tight lathe (no unauthorized movement in any axis) I have my tool ( a new, sharp, 60 degree threading tool) perpendicular to, and in the center of, the 1" diameter 6061 tubing .25" thick workpiece riding 3" from the chuck. I run the program with 2 cleanup passes and taking .005 each pass (just to make sure) up to .050 depth at 86 rpm. My .05 pitch threads are all U shaped and the tops are cut off.

Any guesses?

No, actually this is a boring move. I just found out I've been using an unlicensed copy in the shop. Would that matter? I can check again.

Oh, yeh. It's a demo version. I've got the licensed copy in my office. I wouldn't want to put the licensed copy in the shop. DUH.

Sorry about that.

Last thing about this. When I have the synch turned on and I disconnect the spindle index and eliminate the S command the code gets hung on the canned cycle. When I put the S command back in it doesn't, even though I didn't hook the index back up. Just like you would expect.

I did not slow it down. I tried 70 RPM (geared on the lathe) yesterday and it did not work. I got the plugin today which told me I was actually running 86 RPM when the gears told me I was running 70. When I plugged in 86 rpm in the wizard the only difference was the insertion of S86 into the code. The point I am trying to make is somehow the Mach3Turn engine is synchronizing the spindle index to the threading movement of the lathe, right? If this is so, then the only thing the wizard is doing is commanding the spindle speed. The Mach3Turn engine (software) is taking the gcode for threading and adjusting it for the actual spindle index, right?

So why does putting in 86 into the wizard all of a sudden change my lathe movement to 20 threads per inch? Since my spindle is not really controlled by the gcode S86, I assume the Mach3Turn engine uses this to adjust the threading.

So one question is, does Mach3Turn use the spindle index to control the movement of the lathe during threading and does it take into account any S commands?
