General Mach Discussion / Re: VFD Suggestions

I'll give it a go.  The guys at Siemens can't tell me (?), so I'm asking around.

I've been through this with the guys at Automation Direct.  They tell me that it is nearly impossible to turn a large spindle below about 1%, and that's what I'm getting.

What type of spindles / VFDs do you run?

General Mach Discussion / VFD Suggestions
« on: June 10, 2009, 11:52:38 AM »
I'm currently using a 15HP ELTE spindle and driving it with a GS3-4015 VFD from Automation Direct.

My problem is that I can't get the spindle to run below about 100 RPM.  The VFD just can't get the job done.

Anybody out there know of a VFD that will actually drive a 15HP spindle down to 10-15 RPM?

The programs were generated by SheetCam,  One version is an outside kerf, one is an inside kerf.

The machine is an new zero-backlash ballscrew driven router, so backlash is absolutely not the problem.

Also, I'm cutting "in air".  There is no material being cut at all.  This is just raw motion.  CCW - excellent, CW - bounces froma line to an arc.

Is it possible that this is some sort of setting?

Anybody have or know how to fix this issue?

I made a 4" square and rounded the corners with a 1" arc radius.  If I run this part kerfed to the outside, it moves CCW and it is perfectly smooth all the way around.  However, if I run the same part kerfed to the inside, it moves CW and every transition from a line to an arc makes a noticable jolt that shows up on anything being cut.

Since the CCW paths work perfectly, I can't see how this is a simple setting change.  Any ideas?

About a week ago I found diagrams in the Forum for two versions of a Charge Pump that you can make and use.  Now, I can't find them anywhere.

Anybody out there know where these drawings are?

Thanks

General Mach Discussion / Toolpath Display
« on: March 12, 2009, 12:11:47 PM »
As a part cuts, the display shows what has already been cut by leaving a light blue trail of dots superimposed over the toolpath display.  This has always worked in the original screens that come with a new download of Mach.

However, now the "already cut" dots are not staying on the display.  It will show for 2-3 contours usually and then reset.

Is this a bug, or is it a problem with my computer?

Anybody else out there have this problem?

General Mach Discussion / Re: Another Tool Diameter/Wear Question

Graham - just to be sure (and for other readers as well):

G10 L1  -  This is the command to tell Mach to post an offset?  Does the L1 imply tool #1?

P1  -  I assume this tells Mach to offset Tool #1?

X0.001  -  This tells Mach to reduce the diameter by 0.001"?
