General Mach Discussion / Re: Non persistance when doing config setup
« on: July 27, 2006, 10:41:59 PM »
Hi Gerry,

You were right, the file was a read only........but that didn't fix it. I did discover something though. Once I have the homing/limits set so the axis' jog in the correct direction, if I even go to one of the config screens where the apply button is, and open that screen, the home/limits will revert back to their original settings.

I was hoping someone else had had some sort of a problem like this and could shed some light.

Thank you Gerry,

I have to be gone for a couple of hours but as soon as I get back I will give this a try. Wouldn't it be something simple?

Gerry I did transfer it via cd. Why would that make a difference? Parts of it worked? But you know what, it does revert back to what was initially on the cd.....now, can you explain why, and then how to get it to the machine without having to type everything in? That pc is not connected to the net.

ps thanks

Hi Hood,

Yep tried that too. It works as long as I don't shut Mach down or hit a switch, then in reverts back. Well the settings in the motor tuning, doesn't but the ones in homing does. I am beginning to think it might be trying to reference the wrong direction, but since I have no idea about the workings of V3 I can't check it, and I think Brian is big time pre-occupied today! ;D  I know how to change V2 but things are not the same.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Multiple Head Support

There is also the commercial way of doing it where you have all your heads mounted on a single z axis and each head is mounted on a slide that is moved by pneumatics. A signal to a relay and one head is lowered, a signal to all the relays and all the heads are lowered, and so on.

General Mach Discussion / Non persistance when doing config setup

Hi all,

I worked all day yesterday trying to config the latest version of Mach3 v.65 and have a problem I need to throw out to see if anyone else has experienced. Brian was most helpful and his last email last night suggested a solution.....but it didn't work either.

Here goes. I can get everything set up with a custom xml except the jogging is reversed. I go to homing/limits and reverse directions and jogging is correct. I then had to change my a axis rotation and when I started to test the reference all, the directions on xyz were reversed again. This went on for a while until  I realised that the settings I was putting in the config page was not staying persistant. I then tried making the changes and rebooting before moving anything.....when I opened Mach3 back up the settings had reverted back to their original settings.

Is this something anyone else has seen? Could it hae been a corrupted download?

General Mach Discussion / Re: CAD/CAM software?
« on: July 19, 2006, 09:48:40 PM »
Rhino is my choice of design programs and I use the Madcam plugin as my cam system. Off Broadway is about the cheapest price I know of, I have seen one other posted but for the life of me I can't tell you where it is.

Madcam is not free, but it is not expensive compared to many cam software packages. I think Robert from Offbroadway may offer a bundle price as well.

I have two guitars in design right not and have started machining one of them. It is one of those design a little then machine a little thingys! ;D

General Mach Discussion / Re: Wizard editing......Possible?
« on: June 15, 2006, 09:13:06 AM »
Hi Brian,

It's the digitizing wizard. I have run the wizard several time in testing the probe I built, or rather probes, and have found some things I would like to change. For instance I want the points to be evenly spaced in the dimensions I give the wizard but instead I get a stagered set of points. I used a .125" step in the x and a .06" step in the y. Program starts and runs the first line in the x till you get to the next to the last point, then it is a x/y move to the first point of the second line but fails to give me a last point of the first line! This is repeated along all lines. I need all the points.

Now a question for you. the x dimension was not a multiple of the x step. Is this what cause the x/y step?

After having used the wizard more and actually being able to get a point cloud saved I discovered I didn't need the editing option for the reason I thought I did.

General Mach Discussion / Wizard editing......Possible?

Hi Art or Brian, or anyone else who might know the answer.

Is it possible to edit the output of a wizard in V2 before the wizard code is run? If so how? If not, how hard would it be to edit the wizard to leave a line or two out?

Is there anyone that can give a comparison between 2 and 3 digitizing
wizards? I have discovered a major bug in v2 and I know that Art and
Brian would much rather spend their time on finishing v3. So with that
in mind, I may have to change to v3 now if the wizard is better.

I set up a part, opened the wizard input all the info which was a .125"
step in the x and a .06 step in the y. When doing the first line the x
would somtimes jog 1 step, or 2 or 3 or 10. It was never consistant and
sure not good enough to get a usable file from.

Any ideas?

Mike

ps when doing multiple steps in the x axis the dro was reading the correct movement.
