General Mach Discussion / Re: motorcycle engines
« on: May 14, 2007, 09:41:55 AM »
Thanks Brian,

I have searched the forum and can't find it either. I posted this thread hoping the man who did the engines might see it and post his url. I know I saw the link here on Mach Support.

Any of you other guys that might remember please chime in.

Hey guys, I was looking for the website of the Mach user that has designed a new motorcycle engine and had posted his url somewhere here or on the yahoo site. Anyone have that link? I cannot find it.

Terry when you open Mach look at the upper right hand portion of the screen. Art has Mach default to G20. You will see a string of g words there. See the attached photo showing the G20 in the string at the upper right hand corner.

Hi Brian,

Glad I found this thread and especially the post about the encoders. I'm curious, and not knowing.....I have to ask. My current machine is an old Digital Tool machine using rack and pinion. Single ended steppers driving a transmission that sits on the rack. For this encoder system to work, would I need the encoders on the motors or on the pinion shaft that cogs in the rack?

Mike

ps would this same encoder setup work for a rotary 4th axis?

Be prepared to spend way too much time there if you like cars. Most are modeled in 3ds but some are in Rhino.

Mike

ps spend time looking at the same model from different modelers. Like everything else.....some are better than others.

Tru Oil!............but it's used as a lubricant and a binder rather than a coolant! ;D

Thanks for the comments guys.

G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Re: Covnerting Points into a Surface
« on: January 23, 2007, 02:59:10 AM »
Hi Paul,

While I am by no means experienced in point clouds I have captured a few from both mach2 and mach3. I use Rhino 3d to import the txt file and then save it as a native Rhino 3dm file. Then the work starts. There are packages out there that can make a surface directly from the points by triangulation into a .stl mesh. In my experience and with my dated computer stl's are many times too heavy for my graphics and processor. Let me know if I can help.

This is one of my benchrest competition rifle stocks made from Quilted Cherry. Photo 1 is the stock on the 4th axis and the second is the finished stock. Hand rubbed oil finish by the customer who purchased the stock in the unfinished state.
