Mach4 General Discussion / Re: learning to probe in Mach4 with LUA
« on: November 20, 2016, 11:20:43 AM »
So I looked at the very extensive Lua code in the 2 programs.  Are these examples or are they used by the Mach4 screen for probing.  I and am not sure what is included in Mach4 probing routine as far as being able to digitize a 2D edge.  I understand touch off and tool length setting functions are there as well as some canned centering etc.  However, is edge or shape digitizing already available or is this something to develop?

Thanks
Keith

Fantastic!  Just putting together new components for the prototype and trying to learn Lua at the same time as figuring out all the electronics...
Really hoping the probe routine will be better than the original linear probe approach but I don't see how probing can complete as rapidly as the linear
probe approach did.  Probing does avoid the need to program to collect data from the serial port and the probe is much cheaper than the linear probe encoder.

Appreciate the help and quick response!

Mach4 General Discussion / learning to probe in Mach4 with LUA

Is the module for probing open source so I can learn how to write my own code in Lua to probe a 2D surface?  and if so how do I see the programming?
Otherwise, is Brett's module for probing still available?

Thanks

SmoothStepper USB / Re: db26 header with ribbon cable to connect ESS

Thanks Tweakie, I ordered flat ribbon, headers, and a clamping device on Jameco.com so I am ready to make cables!

SmoothStepper USB / db26 header with ribbon cable to connect ESS
« on: November 19, 2016, 09:43:33 AM »
I am trying to locate a low profile db26 female to male ribbon cable to connect my smooth stepper to breakout board.  I would like to make my own cables but not sure what headers to get and what crimper is used.  So I would appreciate either a source for already made cables or how to make my own.  Thanks!

It must be an issue for demo, but I will try again as soon as I have my computer for a license.  So much to learn!

DaztheGas thanks for the response!  I hope that II did not offend!  I really appreciate what I have gained from this forum.
I only tried to indicate that some posts can go unanswered but that I would follow through if I solved the problem.  Thanks for the info!  It really helps to know now that I have to dig deeper!  Its off to Google...

My caliper is Mitutoyo Robertspark but thanks for the details.

Rhtuttle,  I doubt we will get any help from this forum at this point.  So far I have only received only one response to the last 3 questions I have posted.  Maybe they are difficult questions and everyone seems to be struggling with learning Mach4 and Lua etc.  I will try to figure this out and let you know when I am successful.  It may take a while since I am totally revamping my electronics to upgrade to Mach4.  My caliper has an RS232 out so it might be easier for me to be successful without the hardware you have linked to.  I am sure Mach4 can see the input with the breakout board I plan to install, I hope...  Feel free to message me if needed in the future, I would like to help if I can.

Ok, now I see the problem, we have to select Mach4Lua language with EACH new file and it WORKS!  Yes!
