I downloaded Stirling's program, but i can't get it working. Probe comes down, moves forward to contact, retracts, moves forward to contact and then stops. I have adjusted speeds and acceleration up and down. I'm not sure what to try next. I think I'm almost there. Help.

General Mach Discussion / Re: z axis loosing steeps

now have new problem the z axis is losing steps going down now.
have check 70vdc power supply no problem there.
checked all pulleys and belts no problem.
checked stepper drivers no problem used different axis driver.
next test will check weight against what motor can handle. will use scales to lift z axis, pull to it moves, then do the maths however that is done.
the stepper motor is a 86bygh450b-06d-15j
voltage is 3 VDC, current 5 A,4 phase, 1.8 step angle, 42 Kg.Cm of forces, how do you work out force to weight i am no good at math.
any suggestion will be tried if can.
will work out weight of z axis when i found scales.
might try a counter weight next to see if that helps.

i had a play with settings yesterday if I set the initialization string to say f400 g80 it move all axis at f400 if I use the MDI screen first before I load a gcode as I haven't mounted the home swithes yet. if I hit ref all home after setting home location the problem is gone. so what I will do is set initialization string to f400 g80 for now, when I have home swithes mounted I will just hit ref all home then if I type a move into the MDI screen there will be no problem. this was what I did with old machine that's way I only found this problem now.
