General Mach Discussion / using a spindle encoder w/ Mach 3
« on: January 17, 2008, 01:48:21 PM »
I have an older DOS-based cnc lathe that I'm looking to upgrade to Mach 3 using my existing g100/mach3 setup. The lathe uses a KVM style spindle motor controller and so I was planning on using the digispeed XL board, however, the spindle uses an encoder (see attached image) and I'm trying to find out how I might be able to take advantage of the existing encoder arrangement by configuring mach rather than swapping it out for a pulse generating indexer, etc...

Can this be accomplished with the g100 and mach combined or can mach even be configured to at all to take advantage of a spindle encoder like this one?

 Thanks!!

Mach3 and G-Rex / Re: G100 not compatible 100mbits/s cable ports?

Thanks for the information... I was able to get it working after some more effort. Apparently the 100mbit port was irrelevant.

Not exactly sure what I did to make it work since I tried a lot of things including installing a service pack update for win2k (sp4). One thing I do remember though is that when it finally found the grex with the loader the network was set to DHCP rather than a statically assigned ip. I had no problem after that and was able to flash the grex and now it's registering in Mach so all is good. ;)

 Thanks again!

Mach3 and G-Rex / G100 not compatible 100mbits/s cable ports?
« on: December 23, 2007, 08:56:18 PM »
Does anyone happen to know if the G100 is compatible with 100Base-T cable ports? I can get the Grex Loader to find the g100 on my main pc that has a built-in 10/100Base ethernet but I can't seem to get it to work on my 100Base pc.

I tried running the G100.m3p w/ each of the filies added to the mach3 dir separately (3720 for 10Base and 3750 for 100Base) but it doesn't seem to make a difference for me.

I am able to ping the grex successfully however I am unable to locate it with the Grex-Loader.

 Any ideas?

Mach3 and G-Rex / Re: Communication Lost / Error 777

Hey it works now! ;)

I don't know what I did to fix it though... sorry I can't pass on the fix to this. The only thing I did differently was try to ping the grex - which was successful. That and I moved the grex from a wooden tabletop to a metal surface, but I doubt that made the difference. It's a mystery.  :-\

I am also getting this same error and was hoping someone might be able to help with this.

Here are some screencaps of the two messages I am getting from Mach3 v2.41:

Anybody know what is causing this error?  ???
