General Mach Discussion / Re: Windows shutdown driver hang
« on: September 07, 2011, 04:43:04 PM »
I get a specific message from Windows XP pro when I try to enter standby to the effect that  "The driver from MACH3 is preventing standby" etc and saying the MACH 3 should be closed and try again.  So my assumption is that it's the same situation with your full shutdown/hang  -- which I also experience.  I am fortunate in that my machine was rebuilt from scratch before I loaded MACH3 a few weeks ago and I have few other programs on the machine -- but the problem existed when the machine was almost totally free of any other software.  Otherwise it could become a fingerpointing exercise on a fully loaded machine.

I suspect that this is easy to fix, but that the MACH3 team is doing much more productive work making their outstanding product even better.  I really can't complain, but maybe it will get fixed somewhere down the road.    As Hood said, ' just close MACH3 (like we should) before shutting down'.

I know this answer must be somewhere in the list, but cant seem to find it.

When I try to use Windows auto shutdown -- I'm a forgetful old geezer :P  -- XP Pro hangs with a message saying that the MACH3 driver is holding things up.  Is there a way around this or do I need to tie a string around my finger.....

Thanks

Hi:

I'm a retired aerospace engineer/geezer living in Holly Springs NC and was exposed to CNC routers at the local TechShop http://www.techshoprdu.com/where they have a big ShopBot.  I liked it so much that I just had to have something like it for my very own -- so I bought a 2x4 BlackToe kit and so far am quite impressed with it.  I'm just getting it built and am currently well into the electronics wiring and software setup stage.

At age 69 this sort of thing is both an interesting challenge and occasionally very tiring and frustrating -- but very worth the effort.

I'm not sure what I need this for, but it's interesting.  I built a boat a while back and had a blast building it and would do it all again -- but when I got it into the water it really wasnt much fun.  So maybe this is like that too.

You haven't heard the last of me....... ;D

Thanks Hood.  It looks like we cross posted within a couple of seconds of each other.

It is so encouraging to know that there are kind people like you out there who are willing to help newbies like myself when they blunder into a corner and cant get out of it.

GOT IT!

I went to the port config and turned on the X and Y axis and now it worked like a champ.

I guess that's what the earlier comment was about, but I couldn't translate that fix to the port configuration.

It might make sense to add an item to the configuration manual on this as it's always discouraging to get stumped after only the first ten pages.....

I have a little bald spot from scratching my head all morning, but it feels good to solve the problem.  Time for a beer!

Attached is my XML.

I am a total newbie so all of this is like swimming in jello for me.  I have a blacktoe almost fully assembled, but am holding off on the motors so I can test the electronics with MACH3.  I think I have followed the directions in the installation document to the letter so I am totally stuck on this.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me on this.

Me too!!!!

I just loaded MACH3 per the manual on a Pentium 4 266 that was totally rebuilt with XP-Pro  and see the same thing. MACH and MS office are the only major software on the machine.   It passes the speed/timint tests with an excellent rating.

Jog interface buttons don't work and I get no DRO response from G code entered from the keyboard in the MDI window like the manual suggests.

I've read and re-read the manual with no luck, but it wouldnt be the first time I missed something that should have poked my eye out....
