SmoothStepper USB / Re: SmoothStepper (Soigeneris) up and running!!!!
« on: November 22, 2009, 06:10:56 PM »
Glad to hear you have it up and running.

How are you mapping the probe input to the LED register you are reading? Creating an onscreen LED mapped to the same value will give you a visual indication that yo are seeing the input.

Nope have not seen the Goto Zero problem, I'll have to see if I can reproduce it here.

You were using the old driver or old plug-in? The new plug-in requires the latest version of Mach to work properly. The other possibility I can think of is that you may have had another device installed that uses the FTDI USB chip. Different version of the FTDI driver can conflict and cause all sort of funny issues.

Did you tell Mach to use the SS as your motion control device??? I would guess not. You have to go into Function Cfgs->Reset Dev Sel.. and then restart Mach. Now when you start back up you'll get the license terms screen and then the 'Hey I found an external motion device' dialog. Select the SmoothStepper from the list.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Power Supply upgrade 24-48 G540 the Bad Pins?
« on: November 07, 2009, 09:01:19 AM »
How do you have your limits/etc wired? You should have them wired between Pins 1-4 (inputs) and Pin 12 (DC Common) on the G540. You do not apply any voltage, i.e. 24/48V, to these pins. It sounds like you may have messed up a few of the opto-isolators on the inputs (better than your PC though.) Give Gecko a call, they can repair it for you and they are very generous.

Mach3 under Vista / Re: Your opinion of Vista ?

You should start out with a fresh install of Windows. There is an optimization guide available under the download tab on this site. It will tell you how to install Windows without the power saving features being turned on and give you other optimization tips as well.

OK, so you have a lost/corrupted license file. You just need to send a file to Scott license@machsupport.com and tell him who you are and he can help you get a new license file. If you purchased a license from a third party they may also have a backup. I know I keep a backup of all the Mach licenses I sell just in case a customer ever looses it.

Has nothing to do with Vista. The only 'Vista' related issue is the need to apply the changes listed at the top of this thread IF you are trying to use the parallel port driver. Most license problems come from not copying the license file into the mach install directory.

SmoothStepper USB / Re: SS on Laptop
« on: October 22, 2009, 05:07:33 PM »
The only laptop that I have heard of not playing well with mach and the SS was a Toshiba Satellite. I would say about 1/2 the folks I have sold SmoothStepper to are using laptops. Also, you do not need to load the parallel port driver when using the SS. Just install the SS driver and plug-in after installing Mach.

Hope that helps,
