General Mach Discussion / Re: lathe -g28 moves x before z
« on: April 14, 2012, 11:18:51 AM »
thnaks overloaded and tp

(Using mach3 turn on lathe with the standard screen)

I opted to try the G0 X0 option and this is what i did

( I used a .tap that i wrote called turndownod.tap)

After swirching on I used home switches to "set home X"" and "set home Z"

I jogged the x until it took a cut .

I measured the cut and entered that value into the X axis dro in top left of screen.

I touched the face with the tool tip and zeroed the Z axis at that position

i went to auto prep screen and loaded my turndownod.tap

(I had previously put this line in first
G30 X0 ( in your suggestion))

I did a single cycle and when it got to that line it rapid ran the tool to
X0 when I had wanted it to go to x home

What did i do wrong ? ( apart from breaking the tooltip ( LOL )

regards
 fred

General Mach Discussion / explain soft limits please
« on: April 11, 2012, 12:16:35 PM »
Hello all,

lathe - regarding soft limits

When setting up config/home/limits we are asked to set up soft limits

where is the origin for the point that the soft limit is measured from?

Is my assumption that setting soft limits to +100 and -100 that the
limit of movement will be Home position plus minus 100?

many thank

( lovely weather here in Johannesburg)

General Mach Discussion / search for an old topic
« on: March 23, 2012, 03:03:53 AM »
Hello There-
I have been reading the topics from  way back in time.

Now I would like to look up an old topic and would you please
suggest the best way to do it

For example

there was a topic on dynamically setting the depth of cut that was posted by
wwdusty on march 7th 2008-
How can I look that topic up?
many thanks

General Mach Discussion / Re: home sequence

Thanks TP----

Hehehehe---- Not beating up-just ignorance asking ignorant questions!!

This whole gcode and cnc thing is fascinating, thought provoking and food for divorce
as in " can we go out to supper tonight or are you playing on your computer again"

Fotuneatly South African sun is very hot and this promotes the development of a very thick skin.

We also have a culture here that requires the woman to do all the unimportant things like cooking and
cleaning the house - leaving the men free  to do more important things like gcode etc
and doing internet.

So I am pleased to contribute by my ignorance

Yes this has been rather amusing---  I never dreamt that my original question would
rattle the hornets nest--
I have been watching everyones observations with interest-- and  decided that
i would wait until it cooled down a bit and then carefully go through the whole topic-
absorbing it all word for word

Thank you all for your input and i hope the above explains my silence.

Your question-- Yes i am hoping to be able to get X home before Z moves
( just get the tool away from danger)

Best regards
