G-Code, CAD, and CAM discussions / Wizards question
« on: December 06, 2012, 04:02:41 AM »
hello Chaps,

Few questions on the wizards that come with Machturn.

1. When I call up wizards from the main menu and then select turning
a selection of pictures of the possible operations is brought up on the screen.
Where is the file that is run and what is it called??
2. when posting the code after inserting the sizes the wizard creates gcode
to do the job. A standard set of initialization words are used which prep the
machine so it knows what it is doing. Is it possible to edit the code that writes this
initialization to insert different words at that stage ?

General Mach Discussion / set feedrate mode G94 and g95
« on: October 01, 2012, 03:15:04 AM »
Hello Chaps,

Mach3 turning.
I do not have any measuring device on my lathe that measures the RPM
therefore i have been using G94 ( units per minute)
I would prefer to use units per revolution ( so as better to control the
surface finish)
Does Mach3 use the F word (as set in the gcode) to determine the feed per rev. or is it
dependant on feedback of the actual RPM from some odometer type device?

In other words if i code g95 f100 and feed as .025 - will the cut be the same as if
i code g95 f1000 and feed as .025 ?

many thanks

General Mach Discussion / using M30 to go to home position
« on: September 27, 2012, 10:22:48 AM »
Hello TP,
I am using mach3 for turning

I have home switches and do "set home X"" set home z" aty startup

I am reading a post that you made on the 12th march regarding the use of g28 or g30
to return to the home position

Your suggestion was that g30 x0 "would will home X first then z"

I put the block in and it moved the tool to z0 ( centreline of chuck) before going to Z0

Have i done something wrong?
I want to put a block in that causes the tool to move away from the job on the x axis and then move to the
z axis home position??

Best regards

General Mach Discussion / question on parameter syntax
« on: September 18, 2012, 03:21:54 AM »
Hello chaps,

Getting warmer here in Africa- probably getting colder where you chaps are.

a question about parameters,

to set parameters ( according to the literature i am using ) the parameter is set up using a number

for example #1=24

or

#2=[#1+2]

I am reading a copy of Digital machinist and I see the parameters are being defined
slightly differently and more "programmer-friendly" ( to coin a phrase)
a typical sequence of definitions is as follows
#<tabcentreangle>=0
#<currentX>         =#<_outsideradius>
#<currenty>          =0

First question. the ability to substitute a word for a number definitely makes
programming easier. In Mach 3 am I allowed to say #<outsidediameter>=45 .
and will the program read it correctly. The plan later on would be to say
#<outsidediameter>=[#<outsidediameter>-2]

second question
In the code from america use is made of the "<" and ">". are these symbols
understood by Mach3 or are they seen as an alternative to using "[" or "]"

Your input is sincerely appreciated
