General Mach Discussion / where are the files kept?
« on: January 28, 2019, 02:21:21 PM »
Hello Chaps - I am using mach3 and in a moment of madness I have rearranged the files and folders into what I thought would
be a nice looking folder structure.

Now when I open up Mach3 doesnt know where to find all the pictures>

could someone please tell me which folders must contain which files so that Mach3 knows where to look?
I will then rearrange everything and not go touching and fingerpoking again
 much appreciated

General Mach Discussion / 3 axis screen question
« on: January 28, 2019, 02:16:22 PM »
Hello Chaps
I have just had a 3rd axis fitted to my lathe .
I have been using the 1024 lset screen and now I believe I must use the 1024.set screen ( milling)
so that the 3rd axis can be used.
Using the 1024 .set screen is it still possible to jog the axes using the up and down and sideways arrows?
how can i jog the 3rd axis?
many thanks

General Mach Discussion / phils lathe screen setup 3rd axis
« on: March 02, 2017, 01:03:10 PM »
My sincere thanks to Rich for his elp in setting up phils screen for my lathe.

It is a great step forward for me and i can see that i will like it

However now that i converted from the 1024.lset with only 2 axes- how do i get the 3rd axis to work-

I am just wondering if i need to go through the mill setup?? or are there just a few things
to do to get the 3rd axis to respond??

I need to learn these things without having my hand held arround every corner- so perhaps
you could just refer me to the appropriate sections in the appropriate manual ?

General Mach Discussion / pecking to machine plastic and rubber
« on: February 27, 2017, 10:59:51 AM »
Hello Chaps
I machine a lot of plastics and polyurethane. As you know the swarf control is a problem.

It is nessessary to turn at high speed (1200 rpm plus) to get the swarf to fly away from the tip
and I find that a hefty cut also helps to keep the swarf moving.

I have a strong vacuum positioned near the cutting tip but sometimes (in fact quite often)
the swarf wraps around the workpiece and this is a BU

Could the pecking cycles under the canned cycle section be used to momentarily stop the
cutting tip so that the swarf is "broken" into short lengths making it easier to control?

Or what about some other ideas??

Hope you can help

General Mach Discussion / simple VSD
« on: February 26, 2017, 07:22:02 AM »
Hello Chaps - my previous post about an omron VSD refers.

Can someone recommend a very simple VSD? I am led to believe that the Omron MX2 that i
have is a very sophisticated drive - offerring functionality that I will never use.

I am sure that there must be simple drive available. I only want to control the spindle speed
through Mach3??

anyone have any ideas?

General Mach Discussion / initial settings for variable speed drive omron
« on: February 26, 2017, 06:30:10 AM »
Hello Everybody-
Nice and warm here in south africa-
Probably off topic - but help needed

I purchased an omron mx2 drive and had it coupled to the machine.

When it works - it works fine but regarding support from omron-- well that is non-
existant after hours in south africa . as i am sure that most hobby lathe users are active
after hours - I would recommend that anyone purchasing a VCD make sure that there
is good afterhours support . I will definitely NOT buy omron again. preferable in the form of
a support forum or online support.

Can anyone help me in simple language as to how to set the VSD back to initial defaults?

I have downloaded about 100 odd pages of instruction manuals and "getting started" instructions
But i regret I am unable to make head or tale of the setting up of the parameters.
The instruction books appear to be written for users with a working knowledge of electronics
far beyond my entry level.

If anyone can help me with some information about VSD in general i would appreciate the help.

best regards
