General Mach Discussion / tool table radius and diameter mode
« on: September 14, 2012, 07:04:13 AM »
Hello Everyone

The machine is set for diameter mode

I am setting up a tool table with a rthand knife tool as t0101 and a parting tool as t0202
when setting the t0202 everything works exept that the tool goes to the radius instead
of the diameter.
I need it to go to diameter not to radius
All help to achieve this happy state of affairs will be gratefully accepted

General Mach Discussion / a few questions aboput tool table setting up
« on: September 14, 2012, 04:29:08 AM »
Hello Everyone,
Regarding tooltable setup, offsets and coordinate systems-

Please help me straighten a few things out in my mind. I know that these are all covered in
the manual but I have read through them so often that i am now completely confused

The machine is a lathe with 2 home switches working Mach3 Screenset 1024.lset

Please look at my "Simple Simon"  explanations and see if they are correct and help me with the setup.

The machine is started and told to "set home X "  "set home Z"

We have machine coordinates, program coordinates and part coordinates.

Are the following assumptions correct ?

Machine coordinates x0 z0 is the position that the toolpost will return to when G28 is called
Is this correct?

Are there times when X0Z0 machine coordinates will not be the set home position?

Program coordinate are as follows. X0 will be the chuck centreline.Z0 is usually set at the righthand
face of the workpiece.

Part coordinates will be the same as program coordinates.

Therefore program coordinates and part coordinates are the same thing? If this is correct what is
the difference between the two

Now regarding setting op the tooltable. ( for starting only 2 tools are used a rthand knife tool for
OD and facing) and a 3.5mm parting tool which cutting point is the righthand corner of the tip)
On the manual screen I set up t0101 by :-
calling T0101
doing a facing cut - this is set to axis position z=0
doing an od cut and measuring (in my case od=47.06) I set axis position x=47.06
X and Z part Zero DRO's are both on zero (0.000)
Now i open tool table and Tool 0101 is at the following positions
axis position x=47.06 Z=0-- all the other DROs are set to show 0 (Zero) including
radius,offsets wear and length.

Now I stay in tooltable and select and fit tool 0202. I jog the cutting edge to the edge of the work
(position would be t0101 x47.06 z0 )

Tool0202 cutting tip is now x47.06z0

Now which DRO must be set ? axis position, tool offsets or part zeroing ?

Please help
many thanks

LazyTurn / create new tool- grooving tool-inscribed circle
« on: July 31, 2012, 04:34:12 AM »
Hello chaps.

Newbie to lazyturn and am trying to get my mind around tool creation

I am setting up a grooving tool to do the example .
firstly
How is the "inscribed circle" applied to a parting tool with a
3.5mm wide tip?

In the tool setup dialog what value must i puit in inscrided circle,
tip radius and flank cut depth?

secondly what is the significance of the size of the inscribed circle
and how is it used by the program ?

TIA
regards

fred

LazyTurn / is 3.01 the latest release??
« on: July 30, 2012, 09:23:21 AM »
hi guys
i have just installed lazyturn version 3.01

Is this the latest update?

Also the manual says that lazycam 3.00.2 update is also required. Is that still a requirement?
many thanks
